OPENING OF A COMPETITION FOR THE “PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC’s


SPECIAL GRAND PRIX: THE GOLDEN LION OF SCIENTIFIC AND
TECHNOLOGICAL EXCELLENCE”

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS


PREAMBLE
The Ministry for Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) is organizing the sixth
edition of the Excellence Week for Scientific Research and Innovation (JERSIC) in Yaounde,
Cameroon. The theme for this edition is "Scientific Research and Innovation: Strategic Tools
for Business and Socio-Economic Transformations". The general objective is to define a strategy
that could enable the National Research and Innovation System to contribute effectively in
improving the performance of Cameroonian companies, as part of a win-win partnership.
In general terms, JERSIC makes it possible to showcase the latest innovations of
Cameroonian research to the public and to position it as a full-fledged vector for speeding up
inclusive economic growth.
It also provides a framework for reflection, exchange, sharing and discussion among the
stakeholders of the national research and innovation system on a research issue driven by the desire
to meet the social demand while improving the people’s living conditions quality.
This edition, which is based on MINRESI's prerogatives for the animation, coordination
and control of scientific research activities in Cameroon, aims at creating an environment
conducive for the development and construction of a knowledge-based economy, through the
creation of a discussion platform to encourage greater participation of potential innovation actors
in research and innovation processes.
In addition, the sixth edition of JERSIC offers a privileged platform for the emulation of
the most deserving researchers, the promotion of scientific and technological excellence as well as
the encouragement of innovation through the award of prizes.

With this in mind, the President of the Republic’s special award gathers contestants from
the entire national scientific community (researchers from public and private research
organizations, independent researchers, etc.) in order to reward the relevance of Cameroonian
research productions in terms of advancements in Science and Technological Innovation to better
contribute to sustainable development through entrepreneurship.

PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
The competition is open to the entire national scientific community (individual or team
researchers from public and private research organizations, independent researchers, etc.)
Candidates must:
 be Cameroonian, irrespective of age or gender;
 have Conducted research in Cameroon related to the general theme of the sixth edition of
JERSIC.
AREAS OF RESEARCH CONCERNED
Original and relevant works in the following research areas could be presented in this contest:
 Agricultural, Forestry, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences;
 Medical and Health Sciences;
 Social Sciences and Humanities;
 Geographical Sciences and Development;
 Geological Sciences, Hydrology and Mineral Resources.
 Local Materials;
 Exact and Applied Sciences ;
 Technological Research and Innovations;
 Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

APPLICATION FILE
Candidates applying for this award must submit a file including:
 Detailed CV of the candidate (s);
 Title of the research presented for the prize;
 Domain of research;
 Specialty (ies);
 Summary of work (in French and English, maximum four pages per language, with these
specificities: font size 12 Times New Roman, line spacing 1.5, overall margin 2.5);
 Sources of funding;
 Scientific partnerships and their full addresses;

 Supervision (names of supervised researchers/students, titles of work/projects,
justification);
 Publications (reprints of scientific journals, book chapter, manuals, patents, posters,
samples/specimens, research reports, audiovisual media presented for the prize, etc.);
 Contribution of results to growth and sustainable development;
 Prospects.
NB:
 For team work, highlight the individual contribution of each member, with the
authentication of all contributors. Indicate the full address of the main
investigator.
 Any work that has previously been compensated or awarded at JERSIC shall not
be eligible.

EVALUATION OF APPLICATION FILE


Applications will be evaluated and pre-selected on basis of the best file/field by
independent, specialized sub-commissions according to the nine research areas involved in the
competition.
The pre-selections of the specialized sub-commissions will then be sent to the Special Jury
awarding the President of the Republic's Prize after prior approval by the Scientific Commission
of the sixth edition of JERSIC.

- Originality and innovative nature of the research;
- Innovation;
- Ability to seek research funding;
- Ability to seek partnerships;
- Mentorship;
- Respect of scientific ethics;
- Profitability of research results;
- Contribution to the advancement of science and innovation;
- Impact on development;
- Presentation of the file.

DEADLINE
All applications must be received by the Scientific Commission in physical form. This file,
including the physical evidence of research carried out (reprints of scientific journals, manuals,
patents, posters, book chapter, samples/specimen, research reports, audiovisual aids, etc.), will be
submitted directly at the N° 1 Technical Adviser’s Office, MINRESI. The deadline for submission
of dossiers to the scientific committee is 22 January 2018 at midday prompt.
