INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES
I.Admissions will be made to Full Time /External Ph.D./M.Phil. /M.S. Research Programmes offered
by the J.N.T. University Anantapur, Ananthapuramu in the following faculties:

Full Time:
The full time courses are offered at the research centers recognized by the University only as notified above.
The centers are required to provide all the necessary facilities to the admitted candidates. The candidates
have to stay at the center for the period of the research and are not allowed to take up any teaching or other
jobs.
All other eligibility, supervisors, course work , admission and fee are same as for external candidates.
IV. The candidate should not have registered for any other course leading to a degree in any other
University or Institution and also shall not register during research period.
Note: Candidate should possess 55% aggregate marks and for SC & ST candidates 50% aggregate
marks at PG level for (i),(ii),(iii),(iv) and at UG level for (v) courses
V. If the Master’s Degree of the candidate is of interdisciplinary nature, the faculty in which Ph.D.
admission shall be given based on the Specialization at PG level. The candidate is eligible to appear
for the Entrance Examination in that discipline only. If Ph.D Discipline is not available to the
corresponding P.G. specialization, then admission will be considered related to U.G.
Program/Discipline
VI. ELIGIBILITY FOR SUPERVISOR/ Co- SUPERVISOR :
1. Candidates seeking admission for Ph.D./M.Phil./M.S. must identify and obtain the
consent from supervisor(s) working with constituent and affiliated colleges of JNTUA and
possessing the necessary qualifications for supervision. In exceptional cases, Supervisor(s)
from State and Central Government R&D Institutions will be permitted.
2. A supervisor who is a Professor, at any given point of time, cannot guide more than eight
(8) Ph.D scholars and three (3) M.Phil/M.S. scholars from all Universities external or Full Time
in all faculties as on date also at any given time in future. An Associate Professor as Supervisor
can guide up to a maximum of six(6) Ph.D scholars and two(2) M.Phil./M.S. scholars. An
Assistant Professor as Supervisor can guide up to a maximum of four(4) Ph.D scholars and
one(1) M.Phi.l/M.S scholar.
*Designations such as Professor, Associate Professor & Assistant Professor ratified by the
University will only be considered for allotting the number of candidates
3. A Supervisor must be actively engaged in Teaching/Research in any constituent/affiliated
colleges of JNTUA or in any State and Central Government R&D Institutions and must satisfy the
criteria stipulated.
4. Supervisor/Co-supervisor should fill all the eligibility norms for supervision on or before the
last date submitting the consent i.e. two weeks after the announcement of Entrance Test Results
5. Supervisor/Co-supervisor should submit his/her Bio-data with necessary enclosures and
consent in the requisite formats within two weeks after the announcement of Entrance Test Results
6. A Supervisor/Co-supervisor should have a Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline from a
reputed University with a minimum of seven years teaching/ research experience out of which Two
years should be post Ph.D. Any Professor with atleast five publications in referred journals and
any Associate/Assistant Professor with atleast two research publications in referred journals will
be recognized as Supervisor. The appointment of the supervisor must be ratified atleast once in
his/her entire service. The candidates must enclose the service certificate & ratification letter
of the Supervisor from the concerned authorities and necessary documentary support in the
form of a copy of Ph.D. Degree certificate to verify this criteria.
7. a. In all cases where the Supervisor is from State/Central Govt. R&D Institutions, a Co-
supervisor from Constituent unit of JNTUA is mandatory.
b. If Supervisor is from constituent units or affiliated colleges of JNTUA, Co-supervisor
from JNTUA constituents units is not mandatory. In case of requirement, a Co-supervisor from
JNTUA constituent units may be identified after getting admission
c. The concurrence and details of Supervisor/ Co-supervisor(if any) may be submitted in the
prescribed proforma within two weeks after the announcement of Entrance Test results.
8. The credentials of the supervisor should be certified by an appropriate authority i.e.,
Registrar/Head of the institute/organization.
9. In the case of interdisciplinary areas of research the faculty of Ph.D admission will be based
on specialization of PG or equivalent degree , a co- supervisor may also be permitted in addition to
the supervisor, provided the supervisor and co-supervisor are from different disciplines. In this case
either Supervisor or Co-Supervisor must be from JNTUA Constituent Units.
10. Candidate must submit latest bio-data of the proposed supervisor and co-supervisor (if any)
within two weeks after the announcement of Entrance Test results and evidence to show that he/she
satisfies the qualifications laid down. They must enclose attested copies of the degree certificates of
the supervisor/co-supervisor.
11. The minimum period of full time Ph.D. Program is 3 years and the maximum period is 6 years
and in case of external Ph.D. program the minimum period is 4 years and the maximum period is 8
years. In either case the earliest pre-submission seminar can be held 3 months prior to the minimum
period.
12. No hostel facility will be provided by the University either to Full Time research scholars or
external research scholars.
13. A full time research scholar has to reside at the place where the University College/Unit or
research centre in which he/she has registered for research program is located and he/she shall
regularly attend the Department in which he/she has registered for his research program so that
he/she is in regular contact with the Supervisor. Candidates who are employed in any
Institution/Organization are not eligible to apply for Full Time Programs. All other criteria such as
qualifications, course work etc are same for both Full Time and External candidates.
X. Among the candidates appeared in the Entrance Test, the candidates to be called for interview
shall be in the ratio of 1:2 of available seats in the order of merit in the Entrance Test, excluding the
candidates exempted from the Entrance Test. They shall attend the interview, on the specified date
which will be intimated to them, at their own cost.
XI. Weightage for performance in the Entrance Test for candidates who wrote Entrance Test and
performance in National or State level qualifying examinations for exempted candidates will be
given in the interviews.
XII. INTERVIEW:
1. The Director of Admissions shall notify the list of eligible candidates for interview based
on the guidelines mentioned above.
2. The interviews shall be conducted by the discipline wise interview Committees with
the following structure:

3. The interview shall be conducted for 100 marks with the following break-up:
Performance in the interview to be evaluated by 4 experts (each subject 40 Marks (Maximum)
expert will evaluate for a max of 10 marks)
Experience in Academics, Research & Industry 10 Marks (Maximum)
(for Adhoc service 1 mark for each year; for Regular service 2 marks for
each year)
Academic performance 10Marks (Maximum)
(UG-Distinction -5marks; PG-Distinction -5marks )
(UG-First Class-3marks; PG-First Class-3marks)
Candidates who wrote Entrance Test
Performance in the Entrance Test conducted by University (80%

XIII. The University reserves the right to cancel admission/registration of any candidate to the
research programme at any stage if it is noticed that the data furnished/ certificates enclosed are
incorrect. In case of any disputes concerning admissions to the courses of JNT University
ANANTAPUR the decision of the Vice-Chancellor shall be final and binding..
XIV. ACADEMIC REGULATIONS: The candidates are advised to go through the academic
regulations of the Ph.D./ M.Phil./M.S.2017-18 available in the notifications of JNTUA website
in R&D directorate. A few excerpts are given below:
i)
Fee Details:
The fee to be paid on stipulated time as given below regularly every year till the successful
submission of the thesis or the Cancellation of the admission as the case may be.

With late fee of Rs 500/- 1-10th August 1-10 February
With late fee of Rs 1000/- 11-20th August 11-20th February
With late fee of Rs 1500/- Till the end of August Till the end of February

Non-payment of any fee within one year will lead to the cancellation of admission without
any prior notice to the candidate.
ii). COURSE WORK:
1. The course work shall consist of four subjects out of which two subjects must be related to
the research area of the scholar and two common subjects namely Research Methodology and
Intellectual Property Rights. The course work shall be completed in four weeks contact program at
the University in two spells of two weeks each. The candidate has to acquire minimum of 75%
attendance in each spell. Otherwise, he/she has to repeat the course work.
2. Each admitted candidate has to select two subjects related to his/her research area out of the
subjects listed in the website under various disciplines. One subject must be from courses listed
under Part I and another must be from courses listed under Part II. The two subjects shall be
selected in consultation with the supervisor and co-supervisor (if any) and the subjects selected
must be intimated to the Director, R&D cell with endorsement from the supervisor and co-
supervisor (if any). Candidates will be intimated about the last date for registration of these subjects
once the admissions are over.
4. A candidate will be eligible to appear for pre Ph.D. examinations only after fulfilling the
above conditions.
5. As and when the notification is given, the research scholars have to write the Pre-Ph.D.
examinations in all the four subjects i.e., the two subjects related to research area and the two
common subjects namely Research Methodology & Intellectual Property Rights. A Maximum of 3
attempts (appearance in the exam) will be given to each of the four subjects to pass in pre
Ph.D. exams. The pass mark for passing the pre Ph.D. exam is 50%.
The University reserves the right to make modifications in the academic regulations
governing the research programs from time to time.
Women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a
relaxation of two years for Ph.D/M.Phil/M.S programmes beyond maximum duration.
Earliest pre-submission seminar can be within 3 months prior to minimum period. The
pre-submission seminar board consists of RAC Chairman, Head of the Department of CEA, Two
senior professors nominated by the Vice Chancellor, Supervisor and Co-Supervisor (if any).
The candidate should have passed the pre-Ph.D examination in all the four subjects
The candidate should have published at least 3 research papers along with Supervisor and
Co-Supervisor (if any) in peer reviewed National/ International journals after registering for
the Ph.D.
The candidate should have attended minimum
i. 4 RRMs in case of External Ph.D registration and obtained at least 3 satisfactory
reports
ii. 3 RRMs in case of Full-time Ph.D registration and obtained at least 2 satisfactory
reports
iii. 1 RRM in case of M.Phil and M.S. registrations and should have obtained
satisfactory report
iv. One Satisfactory report in the last two RRMs before pre-submission is mandatory
The University reserves the right to make modifications in the academic regulations
governing the research programs from time to time.
Step1:- Submit online application by paying online fees of Rs.1000/-(Rs. 500/- in case of SC/ST)
on or before 01-02-2018 by 5.00 P.M. and with a fine of Rs.1000/- upto 09-02-2018 by 5.00 P.M.
Step2:- The qualified candidates in the entrance test and exempted candidates from the entrance test
have to submit the following within two weeks after the announcement of entrance test results
a) Filled in application form in the prescribed proforma with the following enclosures:
SSC certificate
UG certificate & Consolidate Marks Memo(CMM)
PG certificate & Marks Memo
All the Experience certificates
Ratified appointment letter, if any
No objection certificate from the present employer
Proof for entrance test exemption
b) Consent of the Supervisor and co-supervisor if any in the requisite proforma with the
following enclosures:
Bio-data of Supervisor
Ph.D. certificate
Experience certificates for minimum seven years which shall include 2 years of post
Ph.D. experience
Ratified appointment letter
Copies of required number published journal papers
c) Abstract with title of the proposed Research work not exceeding 500 words
Note:-1.The prescribed proformae and last date for submission of all the above will be notified
along with entrance test results
2. If applying for more than one program(Ph.D or M.Phil or M.S.) or one mode (external or
Full Time), separate applications have to be submitted by paying requisite fee.
