Shall we allow

big competitors
to enter town?

1
RESOLVED: SHALL WE ALLOW BIG COMPETITORS LIKE ALTURAS ENTER THE PUBLIC
MARKET OR EVEN IN THE TOWN?
YES:
1. Because malls and similar big businesses like Mang Inasal, MacDo, Jolibee,
etc., with their superior technology and products are a crowd drawer. They
magnet customers from faraway places and thus make the marketplace filled with
more people and increase sales.
2. Small businessmen are half asleep, are lazy and lack innovation in both
products and services, in order to challenge the stagnant small businessmen and
pull them up to upgrade, superior competitors have to be invited to town;
3. To lower the prices by small businessmen who are giving inferior products
and services;
4. Because the bottom line is: To protect the customers, e.g., from the abuses
of the small businessmen, e.g., high prices and inferior products and services, and
lack of varieties.

NO:
1. Because what is needed is for the Market Administrator to stop sitting
down and start acting like a maverick CEO of a private mall and lead his small
businessmen into higher levels of products and services, such as:
a. Successfully tie up with local farmers to supply whole and organic
products;
b. Thus, lower the prices;
c. And at the same time, raise up the safety and quality of the
products;
d. Make his/her public market small businessmen into wholesalers, not
just retailers, of organic and whole products;
e. Thus, attract wholesale buyers, not just small retail customers, from
neighbouring towns, not just from the town itself;
f. This alone is the best attracting and prospering strategy: wholesale
of organic (chemical) and whole (complete nutrients, e.g., not polished/
refined) products. Note: Refined sugars, refined rice suffer the same fate:
removal of their bran and germ which results to the loss of 28 out of 30
nutrients found in the bran.
g. The best set of strategy is: (1) Wholesale in quantity and (2) cheaper
price due to wholesale and due to local sources which saves time and

2
distance, hence, lower transportation and manpower expenses; and (3)
Whole and Organic in quality.
2. To activate and awaken small businessmen from lack of innovation and
upgrading, the town mayor through his market administrator must use Divine
Love, not competition, as the main and even sole motivation. Divine Love or love
for neighbor, means (a) feeding the people, the consumers, the families, the
children, et al. with safe and nutritious food; thus (b) protecting them from
diseases, medical expenses, debts, bankruptcies, and death;
The duty of the Government, in the person of the town mayor, is first to protect,
then, serve the people; the people elected or allowed “them” to set up government
based on the promise that the elected and appointed officials and employees will
protect the people who are either the customers or the small businessmen from big
businessmen; once the mayor has strengthened his small businessmen by making
them wholesaler-retailer of organic and whole products, he may let the big
businessmen come in;
3. The alleged high prices by small businessmen can be corrected by a
regulation which requires products to be only either (a) sold by the farmer or
fisherman himself; or (b) a direct buyer; no second or third or fourth buyer is
allowed in order to prevent several layers of mark-up which make the final price
very high. The mayor has to generate employment for these second-, third-,
fourth-hand small businessmen.
4. Inviting malls and big businessmen is not real protection:
a. PRICE PROTECTION. The control or lowering of price initiated by the
new big business is only temporary; once it is able to destroy its small
competitors, it can and will set its prices even higher than the previous
ones; this has happened to Southern Star which is now collecting P62 from
Jagna to Tagbilaran passengers; before Southern Star, the fare was only
P60. The habit of big business has been: lower the price to kill small and
other competitors, and then, raise it once they alone remain (monopoly);
b. SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE. To say that the products of the malls and
other big businesses are superior AND SAFE because of their nicer
packaging, or more delicious tastes, etc., is a big fat lie. As a matter of fact,
it is their nice manufactured, processed products which are responsible for
the killer diseases of modern time: cardio-vascular diseases (CVDs) such as
heart attack, stroke, etc; cancers of over 100 types; diabetes; mental
illnesses such as autism, Alzheimer’s diseases, Parkinson’s diseases. THESE
BIG BUSINESS ARE USING MORE CHEMICALS THAT BOTH DESTROY OUR
HEALTH AND OUR ENVIROMENT. THERE IS NOT SAFETY WITH THEM
UNLESS THEY RETURN TO ORGANIC (CHEMICAL-FREE), NATURAL (NOT
CHEMICALLY ALTERED) AND WHOLE (NOT REFINED) PRODUCTS.

Note:
The discussions in each article are very terribly conclusive and unmistakably
confirming what is observed and experienced in reality by multiple millions of people
around the world, not just the “two or three witnesses” that the Old Testament and Jesus
Christ require to establish a fact or truth. The witnesses are by the millions!
Small businessmen are not innocent as they are retailers of the products
“wholesaled” by big businesses. But here on those lists above, we can see that more of
these products are concentrated in modern malls and supermarkets, because the
grassroots sari-sari stores or small-time fish vendors have still access to organic or semi-
organic products produced locally.
Admittedly, both are parts of the system that produce unsafe products… so much
so that it is not correct to say that “letting the big business enter a local or town market is
to protect the consumer or make the life and health of the people safer” – this is total
fallacy.
What is best to do, in the midst of raging cancers, cardio-vascular diseases,
diabetes, etc., etc., is to recognize the need to go back to organic system of our
ancestors.

Jagna Market Vendors Association (JAMAVEA)
Jagna Business Center
Jagna, Bohol

RESOLUTION NO. 01, SERIES OF 2018

Urging the Municipal Mayor and Council to Strengthen First Members in the Next Two
Years Before Allowing Big Competitors to Enter

WHEREAS, the status of the members of Jagna Market Vendors Association (JAMAVEA) is
presently that of an ordinary retailer;
WHEREAS, as an ordinary retailer, it means that in terms of capital, it is oftentimes by loans
or by buying from wholesaler on credit to be paid in the following weeks, etc.;
WHEREAS, the present source of stocks or products of JAMAVEA members are the big
wholesalers as well as local producers (e.g., fishermen and farmers, et. al);
WHEREAS, the present profit of these vendors is not able to free them from loans and
credit purchase, meaning: the profit is marginal and enslaving;
WHEREAS, this minimal profit is not able to take them the blessed status of debtless and
cash-rich business, by which they can further strengthen themselves against competition,
such as buy in cash and wholesale, or even better, produce themselves the rice, vegetables
or fish they sell, etc.;
WEHREAS, the prohibitive, unregulated rates of loans are furthermore squeezing their
profits thinner;
THEREFORE, to allow big competitors like Alturas with known advantages (e.g., privilege to
sell all products in one store versus the JAMAVEA’s one-line of product policy; capacity to
sell at lower prices, superior store facilities such as nicer and colder place) is like matching
a lightweight boxer against a heavy weight champion,

THEREFORE, we, members of JAMAVEA and the small producers and farmers’ sector of
Jagna, Bohol, protest against the immediately entry of Alturas or any other big competitors
into the market or even town, until the Municipal Government Unit, led by the Mayor, can
accomplish the strengthening of its local small businessmen at least in the following
manner:

1. Enable local producers (e.g., fishermen and farmers) to support the JAMAVEA
members and other small-time businessmen, to attain the wholesale status (i.e.,
supplier to other retailers);
2. See JAMAVEA members and other local small businessmen evolve into
WHOLESALER STATUS from whom retailers from other towns would buy
(minimizing or cancelling Mindanao as the wholesaler);

7
3. If wholesale status is still years away, at the least, our retailer status would be
strengthen in the following manner:
a. Supply or source that can enable us to compete in price;
b. as well as in quality;
c. in a steady and sustainable way.

WHEREAS, this means that:

1. Local producers/ suppliers (e.g., fishermen, farmers) be empowered to produce
cheaper and better quality products/produce; or
2. JAMAVEA members do become themselves their own supplier (backward
integration)!

LETTER TO MR. MARLITO UY, ET AL, OWNER OF ALTURAS GROUP OF

COMPANIES
Sir, in my capacity as your corporate strategist when I introduced to you and convinced
you to “make, instead of buy,” I did not mean to approve the idea of being in the position
where Alturas oppresses the poor;
I mean that Alturas would become a partner of the poor, in his escape from poverty and
weaknesses, just as Alturas went through the same experience;
In other words, I wished to see Alturas behaved not just as a maverick business entity but
also as compassionate empowerer of the poor and the needy, according to Christ’s
commission of charity in Matthew 25.
I know you would reason out that “We do not have the time nor the intention to include it
in our daily planning and budgeting”.
But in order to fulfil the higher goal of “Do unto others what you want others do unto you”
we need to behave in such as way that we avoid what we call “collateral damage” and fulfil
instead what Jesus said, “Be sure you seek and deliver the last one, even if that would mean
that you have to leave the 99 for a while”.
This teaching, sir, means that God would not approve collateral damage – that He wants
that not a single life is sacrificed as much as possible, or not a single individual will lose in
the competition.
“How could that be possible?” in this present world, you might ask, “where it has been
unavoidable to see small and weak businessmen went bankrupt every time a big mall is
built in the vicinity?”

8
My answer: It is possible sir, if in the first place, we consider their welfare, before breaking
the ground for a new mall.
It is possible.
It is like what we do with the idea of relocating the families who would be displaced when
a squatter is converted into a business zone.
So, small local businessmen can also be treated the same way.
To enter a place as a bug bull, and to present to the Mayor of Jagna, to take the case as
the example, with a proposal that was so clearly disadvantageous to the small local vendors
presently occupying the Jagna Public Market, which the Municipal Council immediately
rejected, is a clear proof that you, or your men, are not taking the time to consider our
side, the side of small vendors operating outside the Alturas vortex but in the community
where you are planning to make your presence.
You are still in the myopic mind-set of “what is outside the Alturas circle is a competitor”;
therefore, you do not consider enough the small businessmen in the community to prevent
their demise.
And it cannot be denied, that countless have gone to bankruptcy because of the
appearance of big malls in certain places.
Let us face the fact that these displaced people have not physically died, only died
business-wise.
Is it then a noble feeling to see yourself like a monster swallowing the market, eating up
the sale, stealing the profit in that specific place that used to allotted by God and
distributed among those small businessmen for the provision of their own respective
families?
What justification can you cite?
You are offering better services and safer products than theirs? You are making the
consumers safer health-wise and healthier and have a longer life?
You are not making their body sicker and them mind subjected to chemicals that result to
autism, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.?
You are making their illnesses healed, their body stronger and healthier and their life
longer?
And you are using the profits you seized from the small businessmen to “If you plan for
centuries, educate and build the people”?
Or you are selling products that are hugely suspect!!!!!!!!
And obviously unnatural?!

9
Chicks that become full-grown in body in a matter of 26 days what used to be months?
Do you not know sir, that the bovine growth hormone (bGH) that you are using is listed as
one of the top causes of cancer?
Lettuce that is planted and gets harvested in the same day? – Lettuce that takes only a day
to grow?
Sir, like all other malls, your mall has become the warehouse of disease-making chemicals.
Consider these lists of products and chemicals which are known to be the top causes of
cancers – see if they are not sold in your mall and supermarket and we will see if you are
offering superior and safer products than your small competitors and so make your
“invasion” and continuing presence justified.
Consider if these cancer-causing products and chemicals are not sold and promoted in your
stores:

8 Foods Cancer Docs Try to Never Eat
1. Processed meats - sausage, bacon, hot dogs, and ham, due to an increased risk of
colorectal cancer (sodium nitrites combine with natural amines in the meat to
form cancer-causing N-nitroso compounds)
2. Microwave popcorn (diacytel that is associated with lung cancers)
3. Farmed salmon (polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs))
4. Charred meats - Crazy-high temperatures used in the grilling process produce
cancer-causing heterocyclic aromatic amines and polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons, which are carcinogenic.
5. Artificial sweeteners
6. Excessive amount of alcohol - cancers of the pancreas, ovary, prostate, stomach,
uterus, and bladder
7. Trans fats – e.g., vegetable shortening, margarine, in crackers, cereals, candies,
baked goods, cookies, granola bars, chips, snack foods, salad dressings, fats, fried
foods, and many other foods.
8. Bagels - a dense bread roll in the shape of a ring, made by boiling dough and then
baking it

We are talking only of cancer. We are not yet talking about the No. 1 killer diseases:
cardio-vascular diseases (CVDs). Cancer is ranked No. 2 killer disease in the US. CVD is No.
1.
There is not much difference in the Philippines and other countries who are following the
US diet and lifestyle.
There are 6 major forms of CVDs, namely:
1. Coronary artery disease (narrowing of the arteries)
2. Heart attack.
3. Abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias.
4. Heart failure.
5. Heart valve disease.
6. Congenital heart disease.
7. Heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy)

13
What foods and products do cause CVDs?
What kind of diet causes heart disease?
Limiting how much saturated and trans fats you eat is an important step to reduce your
blood cholesterol and lower your risk of coronary artery disease. A high blood cholesterol
level can lead to a buildup of plaques in your arteries, called atherosclerosis, which can
increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. Mar 18, 2015
