Language Translation & Social Science Career Path Association

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO SCARBOROUGH

Thursday, January 25, 2018

Dear Members and UTSC Community,

We are aware of an incident happened after the Public Speaking Contest 2018 this year that involve our
TSCPA Alliance associate members, and has created some conflicts in other student organization. Despite
this incident does not involve TSCPA at all, we would like to clarify our position in this incident and to
protect the interest of our members.

According to the TSCPA Constitution 2016, our Alliance’s associate member does not speak on behalf of the
organization as they are not executive. Their comments are personal opinion and should not be deemed as
official statement made by the student organization or the organizations that we represent. The President and
the Senior Executives of the Language Translation & Social Science Career Path Association is the only
official spoken person of the student organization. There should be no other person can represent the
organization as a whole other than the President and the Senior Executives.

At the Language Translation & Social Science Career Path Association we strive to be an equitable and
inclusive community, rich with diversity, protecting the human rights and woman rights of all persons, and
based on understanding and mutual respect for the dignity and respect of every person.

Our support for equity is grounded in an organization-wide commitment to achieving a working, teaching
and learning environment that is free of discrimination and harassment as defined in the Ontario Human
Rights Code.

The creation of an equitable community, one that is diverse as well as inclusive and that is respectful and
protects the human rights of its members, requires the work of every member of the community, across all of
our sites and locations, including members, associates, executives, visitors, alumni members and guests.
Additionally, we fully follow the university’s policy in all aspects to provide an equitable community for our
members.

The organization’s values of diversity, equity, inclusion and the protection of human rights will continue to
inform and embed our commitment to build an environment where all members of our diverse community
know and feel that they belong at the Language Translation & Social Science Career Path Association. If
you require any assistance and have any question, please contact our Communications and Public Affairs at
marketing.tscpa@gmail.com .

Sincerely,
Communications & Public Affairs
