Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study:

The researcher conduct the study to help the people especially the students and
the employees to not be rattle if they don’t have a charger that they bring with them. So the
researcher think an alternative substation to the commercial power bank which is the alternative
one and that is a power using a battery.

A Power Bank is a mobile charger can be charged in advance for later phones,
tablets or laptops to recharge. A Power Bank is a handy gadget that you can charge your
electric devices without a power socket. This is useful if you're on the road for example.

The researcher is aiming to make a new invention that can help the people
especially the students and employees, so that it will be easy for them to charge their gadget if
they have a low battery which is affordable and easy to make and that is power bank using a
battery.

Statement of the problem:

In line with the quest of having a cheap but effective power bank the researcher will conduct a
study on the feasibility of power bank using a battery.

Espicifically this study will answer the following question:

1. Is there a significant difference between homemade and commercial power bank

in terms of effectiveness?

2. Is there a significant difference between homemade and commercial power bank

in terms of time?

Hypothesis:

1. There is a significant difference between homemade and commercial power bank in

terms of effectiveness.

2. There is a significant difference between homemade and commercial power bank in

terms of time.
Significance of the study :

As the name implies, a power bank is an electronic device that stores power electric
energy. It could also be referred to as a battery bank or a power station.

Mobile phones and some other USB devices like PSPs,ipods,mp3 players, mp4
players, portable video cameras, etc. have become very important gadgets to man. Some
persons can hardly live without their mobile phones as it has become one of the major wheels
that drive their businesses, career, ministry, academics, etc. The importance of power are it will
save you of the stress of looking for where to charge your phone when you are not close to any
socket in times of emergencies. Most of the time, we embark on long journeys and our phones
are what keep us busy inside the vehicle. A power bank will help keep your phone alive
throughout the journey.

Scope and limitation:

The researcher will conduct a study at Sta. fe National High School starting from July 2017 to
January 2018 this study is limited only by answering the question in terms of effectiveness and
time of “POWER BANK USING A BATTERY”.

Review of related Literateture

Power bank also called “mobile battery”, “external battery”, “spare battery”, “digital
charging companion”, and “charging stick”. It also has a very personal name: “mobile phone
lover”. “Power bank” concept has been developed along with the rapid growth and
popularization of digital products, and its definition is: portable power supply which is easy to
carry with large capacity.

In the light of the growing diversity of digital products features, more frequent usage, as
well as closer and closer work association with our daily life, the problems how to increase the
use time of digital products and electronic products, how to facilitate human living, how to add
power supply, and how to play its full role have no time to delay. Power bank, is the best
solution designed to address these problems. Carrying a mobile power can achieve outside
charging for a variety of digital products anytime, anywhere.( https://www.easyacc.com/media-

There are three main components of a battery: two terminals made of different
chemicals (typically metals), the anode and the cathode; and the electrolyte, which separates
these terminals. The electrolyte is a chemical medium that allows the flow of electrical charge
between the cathode and anode. When a device is connected to a battery — a light bulb or an
electric circuit — chemical reactions occur on the electrodes that create a flow of electrical
energy to the device more specifically: during a discharge of electricity, the chemical on the
anode releases electrons to the negative terminal and ions in the electrolyte through what’s
called an oxidation reaction. Meanwhile, at the positive terminal, the cathode accepts electrons,
completing the circuit for the flow of electrons. The electrolyte is there to put the different
chemicals of the anode and cathode into contact with one another, in a way that the chemical
potential can equilibrate from one terminal to the other, converting stored chemical energy into
useful electrical energy. “These two reactions happen simultaneously,” Allanore says. “The ions
transport current through the electrolyte while the electrons flow in the external circuit, and that’s
what generates an electric current.”

If the battery is disposable, it will produce electricity until it runs out of reactants (same
chemical potential on both electrodes). These batteries only work in one direction, transforming
chemical energy to electrical energy. But in other types of batteries, the reaction can be
reversed. Rechargeable batteries (like the kind in your cellphone or in your car) are designed so
that electrical energy from an outside source (the charger that you plug into the wall or the
dynamo in your car) can be applied to the chemical system, and reverse its operation, restoring
the battery’s charge. (Mary Bates
