B. Motivational Activity
1. The teacher will post a word compost of 45 letters and will ask the students about the meaning
of the word. The student will try to divide the words into parts to better understand its meaning.
After that had given their guesses, the teaching will post again a sentence using the word with 45
letters and will ask again the students of what could be the meaning based on how it was used in
the sentence.

Meaning: An invented long word said to mean a lung disease caused by inhaling very fine ash and sand
dust.

D. Lesson Proper
The teacher will discuss Context Clues and its types.
Context clues - are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may
appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
1. Definition/Explanation Clues
Sometimes a word's or phrase's meaning is explained immediately after its use.
2. Restatement/Synonym Clues
Sometimes a hard word or phrase is said in a simple way.
3. Contrast/Antonym Clues
Sometimes a word or phrase is clarified by the presentation of the opposite meaning somewhere
close to its use. Look for signal words when applying context clues.

E. Application:
The students will be divided into four and the group’s representative will come in front to draw
lots for the pictures to be used. From those pictures, the students will write at three sentences
based on the context portrayed in the picture.
IV. EVALUTION
Directions: Identify what type of Context Clues are the given sentences.
1. It was an idyllic day; sunny, warm and perfect for a walk in the park.
2. Emma had a lot of anxiety about the exam but I had no worries about it.
3. Some celestial bodies, such as the planets and stars, can be seen with the naked eye.
4. The cat has a kind disposition and would never bite or claw anyone.
5. Her animosity, or hatred, of her sister had divided the family.
6. Marty is gregarious, not like his brother who is quiet and shy.
7. The manager wanted a weekly inspection, which is a methodical examination of all the
equipment.
8. The hero was virtuous, not like the evil villain.
9. Walt’s pugnacious behaviour made his opponent back down.”
10. His constant questioning of my remarks made him a nuisance.
