BAB 1
Introduction
Jambi regional language is very diverse, especially the regional language kuala
tungkal, Tanjung Jabung west. namely duano language and the native language of kuala
tungkal region is Malay language. duano language and Malay language is a traditional
language that is in jambi. although the general qualities of his community use Malay
language as a colloquial language but for the Malay villages, especially the people who use
duano language, because in general duano language is widely used by local fishermen as
their daily language with the family, while for work or outside their home used to use
Malay language.
Language is a part that can not be separated from human life, because the language
seseorag can convey intent and desire in others. In other words, with language one can
communicate with others.Basically, the language has two fundamental aspects, namely
aspects of forms and aspects of meaning. Aspects of forms relate to sounds while aspects of
meaning are related to lexical, functional and grammatical. When we look carefully at the
language in its form and its meaning shows the difference between its disclosures, between
speakers with each other. These language differences produce a variety of languages or
variations of language.
Kuala Tungkal is one of the few areas in Jambi, it takes several hours to get to the
area, Kuala Tungkal is the area with a fairly advanced trade center, There is a port in
tungkal that makes trade in Tungkal no less than Jambi city, the community in Kuala
tungkal general works as a fisherman, although Kuala Tungkal arguably a fairly advanced
area but in this area his community is still the end of the value of norms and customs even
for shopping centers there are only shops without any mall. to get there from the city center
you can take the land route by bus, motorcycle or car. takes 3-4 hours to get there, with cost
depending on the need. if you want to see indigenous people melayu and duano this is
where it is, here the community still menjujung customs value even the house they live in
most houses stage
This study discusses the dialects of Malay and Duano. In particular, this study
examines the variation of dialect either phonologically or lexically. Especially in the area
of Kampung Nelayan, Kuala Tungkal, Tanjung Jabung Barat.Malay and Duano languages,
have different dialects. The differences can be seen in terms of phonology and lexical of
the difference between the choice of words used each region to show a meaning.

TINJAUAN PUSTAKA, LANDASAN TEORI, KERANGKA BERPIKIR
A. Literature Review
Writing related to the opposite group of people is quite a lot done by researchers,
especially those related to the native language of the community there, many students
who have researched in the opposite city, they examined the native language there by
directly interviewing the community there. The Malay dialect of Jambi City has been
studied by Leigh (2010: 110), especially in the sociolinguistic realm that states that “The
usage of Jambi Malay is high, especially in the Low domains. Its strength with regard to
other languages in the area is relatively strong. And attitudes towards Jambi Malay are
positive.”
B. Theoritical Basis
1. Lingusitics
The scope of linguistics includes two (2) internal and external parts. Internal linguistics
includes: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and discourse analysis whereas
external linguistics includes the field of linguistic studies itself that combines with other
sciences such as: Etnolinguistics, psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics,
dialectology, and others.
a. Dialek
Dialects are the language variations of a relative number of speakers, which
differ from one place of region or area (according to Abdul Chaer). Whereas
according to the Greek dialect dialectos which means variant of a language
according to the wearer. Giving dialect based on geography and social factors.
Dialects are distinguished by vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. If the
distinction is only based on pronunciation, it is called an accent. It can be concluded
that dialect is a variation of language from a group of speakers who are different
from other groups of speakers based on geography, social factors, and others. The
study of dialectology is called dialectology, the field of study that works in mapping
the dialect limit of a language.
The calculation in searching whether an isolek entered into the realm of dialect or
subdialek using dialectometry technique. The term dialectometry was introduced by
Jean Seguy (1973) in his work entitled La Dialectometrie dans l'atlas Linguistique
de la Gascogne. Revier in (Ayatrohaedi, 1983: 32) states that dialectometry is a
statistically measured measure to see how far the differences and vocabulary
equations are contained in the places studied by comparing the amount of material
collected from the place studied. The formula used for the calculation of
dialectometry is:
(S x 100)
_______ = d %
n
Explenation:
S= different amount of vocabulary or lexicon
n= number of maps compared
The percentage results in the observed area are correlated with the percentage
calculation of isolate status to determine its position in the language structure.
Guiter (in Ayatrohaedi, 1983: 32), calculations on lexicon fields, namely:
81% and above: considered language differences
51-80%: considered difference of dialect
31-50%: considered subdialec difference
20 - 30%: considered difference of speech
below 20%: considered no difference.
b. Phonology
One study of science that discusses the sound system in human language is phonology. The
goal is to formulate the universality of languages, that is, to find characteristics of the basic
sounds of human language. Hyman (1975: 2) explains that "phonology has been defined as
the study of how speech sounds structure and function in languages." Phonology also
studies the characteristics of sound systems used by humans in communicating.
2. Language Contacts
One of the functions of language is as a communication tool to convey what is in
the mind of the speaker or partner of speech, the expectation of something, as well
as to self-identify. Communication itself is the process of exchanging information
from speakers to speech partners by using symbols or signs of either formal,
informal, spoken, written, or sign language.
C. Thinking Framework
The group of people being studied is a group located in the kuala tungkal district
right across from Jambi Province, namely in three hamlets: Kampung Nelayan
BAB III
RESEARCH METHODS
A. Place of Research
This research was conducted in Kampung Nelayan
B. Types of Research
Type of research used there are 2 (two) that is quantitative research and
qualitative research. This research is used interchangeably. In the early stages of
using quantitative research to determine the status of isolated language
comparison. The second stage of the research used qualitative research to
describe data related to phoneme data, lexicon.
Quantitative research using comparative method, that is the result of calculation
of data found in field compared to one area with other area which is in Province
of Jambi. "In the study of language typology, the comparative method is used to
observe the similarities and differences in the types of languages in the world
based on the study of the structure of the various linguistic levels
synchronously" (Fernandez 1993: 2-3).
The technique used in quantitative research is dialectometric technique that
aims to find out the status of isolek languages sebrang in Jambi Province. Then,
qualitative research uses two (2) techniques namely botton-up reconstruction
and top-down reconstruction technique. Botton-up reconstruction is used to
reconstruct ancient vowel phonemes and ancient OR consonant phonemes. Top-
down reconstruction is used to look for elements of innovation and relics.
B. Data and Data Sources
Research data were obtained from selected informants. This linguistic data is in
the form of lexicon, and phoneme. The data can also be referred to as "research
material or more precisely the research material" (Sudaryanto, 1990: 9). The
collected data is entered into excel, so the data is stored well.
A.
The data source of this research consists of 3 parts, namely: "resource
(informant), place or location, documents and archives" (Sutopo, 1996: 48-51).
This research uses resource (informant), place or location, document and
archive as data source.
The selected informant must meet the specified criteria. Chambers and Trudgill
(1998: 33) say "the majority of informants have consisted of nonmobile, older,
and rural males." The selected informants were the original inhabitants across
whose territory was in close scrutiny. Selection of informants using purposive
sampling technique.
C. Data Collection Techniques
According to Goetz and Lecompte in (Sutopo, 1996: 55-65) data collection
methods can be grouped into two (2) ways namely: interactive methods and
noninteractive methods. Interactive methods include interview techniques and
passive role observation, while noninteractive methods include questionnaire
and recording techniques. This research uses interview techniques, passive role
observation, recording, and questionnaires.
D. Technic Data Analysis
The data analysis technique is an advanced stage after the data is tabulated and
classified. Data analysis is the process of organizing and sorting data into
patterns, categories, and sets of basic descriptions so that a theme can be found
and workable hypotheses can be formulated as suggested by the data (Moleong,
2007: 248).
In data analysis, this study uses comparative method. Then, the technique used
is the equalizing appeal (HBS) technique, the differential distinguishing (HBB)
technique. This technique is used to analyze phonemes, lexicon.
BAB VI
DISCUSSION
A. Hasil Penelitian
The calculation of dialectrometry is based on 200 glos used as supporting data in
descripting lexicone differences between observation areas. The overall data on six
(6) DPs in Jambi is 1062. The DP area includes the Village of Fishermen Village,
Tungkal Ilir Sub-district. Data analysis performed found subdialec difference of
45.5% from a number of gloss, and zero (no difference) of 8 gloss.
B. Pembahasan
Based on the description of the results of the analysis in the fishing village there are 8
sources.
