Communication Skill for Teachers:

Communication is basically to deliver your ideas to the other person effectively. It is very important to
communicate the thoughts as they are. In teaching it becomes even more critical as we have various
factors which can affect it, e.g. we have students from all over the Pakistan which have different mental
approach so to deal with all the students at one time one should be having good communication skills.

In teaching, it is said that 50% is your knowledge and 50% is the way how you communicate it to the
students. While we talked about communication, it is just about speaking and giving lectures. It is very
necessary to get feedback from students and there are many ways to evaluate it. Our body plays a vital
role in communication because how we pasture, it also has a meaning. So for good communication,
teachers should be fresh, energetic and enthusiastic.

As it has been said earlier that students might be at different metal approach so our lecture should have
ideally medium difficulty level so that everyone pays attention to it. There should be friendly environment
in the class so that student feel free to question. As much they will ask question, you will have better
feedback and will be able to deliver your lecture in much better way but there should always be a fine line
which should not be allowed to cross. Teachers must consider the background of his/her students while
preparing lectures.

In order to deliver a lecture on a specific topic, there are few steps involved in it. When student receives
the idea from his/her teacher then he tries to decode it on the basis of his collection of words and as each
student has its own collection of words so same idea can be interpreted differently by different students.
It is actually the frame of reference that has been changed. We can define frame of reference as following
simple equation.

𝐹𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑅𝑒𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 = 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠 + 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒

Instead of criticizing or make fun on a wrong answer, we can use some positive phrases as “Unique way
of thinking” and then explain the right answer. Due to such tactics, students feel more comfortable and
try to answer and ask questions in the class. While delivering the lecture, there might be different barriers
between the students and teacher. On broader perspective these might be physical and mental barriers.
These can never be eliminated but can be resized so a teacher should try to provide a comfortable
environment to the students.

As we have mentioned that body language is also an important parameter which will decide your
communication. It lies in non-verbal communication and some experts agree that it influence almost 55%
while vocal influence is 38% and content has only 7% wattage. In non-verbal communication, eye contact
is an important thing but it should be random and not for more than three seconds. It is very important
to motivate the students so a teacher should tell about successful stories to his/her students to motivate
them. A teacher should have a good sense of humor so that he would be able the keep the environment
friendly and ensure that students don’t lose their interest.
Learner’s Psychology:
Lerner’s psychology is an important parameter which a teacher should realize and try to understand the
learner’s thinking. The approach should be right so that students could understand the concepts in a
better way. In today’s era life is so fast that we have no time for our personal growth and self-esteem. A
teacher should be learner centered not self-centered because when someone is self-centered then
he/she takes the things as he/she thinks about it and wants the students to be like him/her.

There are mainly four factors with the help of which we can understand the psychology of our learners.
The factors and their sub-categories are given below.

Cognitive and Meta-Cognitive Factor:

Intellectual Level:
Everyone is has its own intellectual level so everyone understands the concepts according to his/her
own ability. A teacher should know the intellectual level of the learner.
