Brief Overview
Eid Milad-un-Nabi, is a public holiday in Pakistan and is observed annually on 12 Rabi ul Awal
(third month of the Islamic calendar) in connection with the birth anniversary of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). This year 12 Rabi-ul-Awal is falling on Friday, 01 Dec 2017. Traditionally,
the event is marked with a large number of religious congregations and processions organized
in all major cities across the country.

Assessment
Historically the event has been observed under heightened sectarian threats given the sensitive
nature of the event and likelihood for eruption of violence. Hence, amid persisting speculations
for sabotage activities, augmented security measures in shape of additional deployment of LEAs
personnel, patrolling, snap checking and road blockages, are expected to be seen around all
religious gatherings and processions to maintain law and order. As such disruption to flow of
traffic is obvious on main thoroughfares and shall be taken in to consideration while planning
road travel.
So far no official announcements have been made on ban on pillion riding and temporary
suspension of cellular services but cannot be ruled out particularly in federal and provincial
capitals.

Advisory
All staffs are advised to take following preventive measures in order to remain safe from
possible disruption;
Maintain a low profile and avoid unnecessary movements on the day particularly in
areas indicated above.
Take all necessary personal, residential and travel safety and security precautions.
Carry along original CNIC and vehicle / motorbike registration papers to avoid
inconvenience during snap checking of law enforcement personnel.
Traffic congestion is anticipated mainly in surrounding areas of the highlighted
flashpoints hence plan your traveling accordingly to prevent traffic delays / congestions.
Keep yourself abreast of the latest situation by regularly monitoring electronic / social /
print media.
Staff who would like to attend relevant events due to religious obligation should be
aware of the associated risks and should remain highly vigilant.
Amid possible suspension of cellular phone services, use landline, Wi-Fi, social media,
whatsApp as a mean of communication for any routine, urgent or emergency reporting.
Please share this information to other colleagues / staffs who have no email access.
Security department will be closely monitoring the events and will keep the
management posted on any untoward development.
