LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 2017 CEO FORUM

The LGLA’s 8th Chief Elected Officials Forum was held December 7-8 at the Radisson Hotel
Vancouver Airport in Richmond. The Forum was attended by 29 Mayors and Chairs from around
the province and was hosted by Gordon McIntosh of the Local Government Leadership Institute
and Tracey Lorenson of Paragon Strategic and Civic Excellence, with Don Lidstone of Lidstone Law
Corporation again providing information on the legal context for local governance.

The forum opened with roundtable introductions and moved through a series of contextual
discussions and information sharing sessions: Strategic, Legal, Council, Governance and
Organizational Contexts, followed by a discussion of Leadership Insights.

A Dinner and Leadership Reception was held on the evening of opening day, providing an
opportunity to network and share ideas in an informal setting.

All in all, the event was a great success thanks to our excellent presenters and many enthusiastic
participants. The LGLA is now considering future CEO Forum dates, locations and topics. We
expect that next year the focus will turn to the practical aspects of running efficient, effective and
respectful meetings.
