These caculations are raised in order to get approval for using steel supports for cold water
supply pipes (ductile iron pipes).
Since the location od steel brackets is at tunnel - finger relation, brackets are designed as steel
dropers suopported from concrete beam.
Prior to site work, the connection between steel support and concrete beam is adopted as
welded connection to embeded steel plate.

Arrangement of pipe supports 4m, 2m,2m,4m,2m,2m give 3 meter pipe load on one bracket.
In this calculations adopted distance is taken as 4 m, to match with adopted distance in SCR 0036.
References for design are taken from DAR's MH drawings ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTIONS.

Kindly review attached:

>Calculation using steel grade ASTM A36 for steel sections, threaded rods and embeded plate,
>Calculation using steel grade ASTM A36 for pipe clamps and angle connectors,
>Copied pages from DI pipe manufacturers catalogue,
>Copied pages from stud anchor catalogue,
>Copied pages from AISC for fillet weld and safety factor reference,
>Printed pages for adopted section property.

Please note that site work in the utility tunnel is in progres and approve these calculations for
our future action.

In order to match the deflection of the steel bracket that support droper rods with deflections
of steel cantilevers which support pipes in tunnel portions before/after dropers, the treaded rods will
be used for adjustment tighten with regular / locked nuts.

3.1.7 Total dead load for pipe 200 mm dimater………….………….G2t= 6.596 kN

Total load on steel supports G= 10.232 kN, for pipe length of 4 meter, is as
2.558 kN/m, which is match with load of 250 kg/m recommended by consultant in drawing:
CD-8.03.0-BR-05-071, issued for construction.

4. MODEL ANALYSIS
Will be calculated in softwear STAAD pro and input/output file is shown on following pages.

5. THE CALCULATION OF EMBEDED PLATES AND ANCHORS

Adopted embeded steel plate 360x360x40 mm which will be welded to anchor stud bolts, due to
easier process of erection. Embeded plate with welded studs will be fixed on inside face of shutering
and after 28 days of casting concrete, steel barcket will be site welded to embeded plate.

Design and check are calculated in softwear KOECO (Germany) and inpu/output fiiles are shown
on follownig pages.
Design criteria for model: EUROPEAN NORM
Steel grade fo embeded plate as per ASTM A36 (grade 40 similar), with Pymin=245N/mm2
Adopted type on anchor stud is shear connector with steel grade ASTM A 168,including welding
compatibility with carbon steel (embeded plate). Technical and mechanical properties are given in
attachment.

7.0 THE CHECK OF THREADED RODS

7.1 CONCEPT 1

two regular nuts

two regular nuts

Adopted concept is based on corrosion exposure and pullout force for nut (tesnion force in rod)
Therefore it is assumed fully threaded rod with hot deep galvanization preparation as resistance
against corrosion, while as additional safety against nut pullout force adopted is tightening with two
regular and one locked nuts.

Adopted bolts/nuts as per BS grade 4.6 hot deep galvanized with following properties:
Shear capacity of bolts ….……………………………………………pys= 160 N/mm2
Tension capacity of bolts …..…………………………………………pyt= 240 N/mm2
Bearing capacity of bolts ….………………………………………….pyb= 460 N/mm2

7.1 CONCEPT 2

Since forces in for this case are ….………….. 3.29 kN per each rod, which is less than

Note: In case that UA 150x90x12 is not available on local market or site (mechanical) request
are dismatch, instead of this type connection, an "eye bolt" can be used as per sketch bellow.
Using of eye bolts should be as per following design criteria:
1) The steel grade as per ASTM A36,
2) To be hot deep galvanized prior to corrosion expsoure,
3) To have tesnion capacity of 1 ton (10 kN) minimum.

8.2 UNEQUAL ANGLE UA 150x90x12 THAT SUPPORT 200 mm DIA PIPE

Since the tension force in the rod that carry 200 mm dia pipe is 5.026 kN which is less then
force calculated for rod that carry 300 mm dia pipe and the same detail/design criteria will be followed
therefore there is no need for calculation for this case since the stresses will be less.
Adopted UA 150x90x12 with the same connection details and are calculated in 8.1

9.2 THE CHECK OF CONNECTION DETAIL BETWEEN TWO CLAMPS

Adopted bolt is as per GR 4.6 with hot deep galvanized preparation.
9.2.1 TOP CONNECTION
From STAAD output file the maximum rection at this location is..……. 0.886 kN
Tesnion force in bolt (unfactored)………………………………………….. 0.886 kN
Load factor for dead load……….. 1.4 factored force is……… 1.24 kN
Adopted diameter of the bolt is.. 20 mm, which will give efective tension area of:
Efective area of bolt: Aa=D^2*3.14/4……..…………………………..Aa= 314 mm2
Tension capacity:
Ftcap=0.8*Aa*pyt= 60288 N, which is... 60.288 kN > 1.24 kN…………...safe

Fastener force for pipe rigid tightening (worst case) is 0.25 % of tension capacity of the bolt.
Therefore assumed tightening force is Ftt=0.25*Ftcap=………………… 15.07 kN

9.2.2 BOTTOM CONNECTION

Since the axial bolt force for bottom is the same as for top connection the same connection
detail will be used for fastener bolt.

9.3 BOLTED CONNECTION BETWEEN CLAMPS AND UNEQUAL ANGLE

The bolt that connect UA 150x90x12 and pipe clamps 150x10 will be stressed due to shear
force and bending since shear force is acting at the midd of the bolt.
Adopted bolts as per 8.1 is D= 24 mm
Minimum edge distance, minimum distance between two bolts, bearing capacity of the bolt,
bearing capacity of the clamps as well shear capacity of the bolt are calculated in 8.1 and identified
as safe. Therefore the subject of this calculation is bending capacity of the bolt and total stress.
As it is calculated in 8.1 shear force/capacity is as follows:
Ps=……………………………………………………………………………. 9.226 kN
Pscap=………………………………………………………………………… 88.62 kN
Bending moment at the midd of bolt
Mbbolt=0.5*9.226*0.005=…………………………………………………… 0.023 kNm
W=0.1 D^3……………………………………………………………………. 1382 mm3
Mbboltcap=W*Py=… 338688 Nmm=……… 0.338688 kNm>….. 0.023 kNm………safe
total stress ratio:
R=((Ps/Pscap)^2+(Mbbolt/Mbboltcap)^2)^0.5= 0.12439969 < 1…………………………..safe

10.0 THE CHECK OF CLAMP DETAL THAT SUPPORT 200 mm DIA PIPE-CONCEPT 1

Adopted the same connection/clamps details as in 9.0.

Since the load for this case will be less (pipe 200 mm dia) and connection / clamps details are
the same, there is no need for design/calculation since all items are identified in 9.0 as safe.
