ADOLESCENT ANGST:

INSPIRE THE YOUTH TODAY FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

Objectives of Project:

By the end of the project, students would be able to:

i. engage in service learning, and


ii. apply higher order thinking skill (analytical, practical and creative thinking) in
demonstrating their understanding of the course by organising Social Awareness
Campaign that would be beneficial to their local community.

Instructions:

The Final Project

Form a group consisting of 8-10 students. You need to decide on the:


i. Group or Campaign Name.
ii. Board of Directors
iii. Logo
iv. Campaign Slogan

Task 1 (Legacy Project & Fund-raising)

You are required to:

i. support the existing or future local project in the group community by organising
fund-raising activities together with the social awareness initiatives.

ii. organize a project in the form of Material Culture such as mural, decoration,
physical structure or non-material culture like introducing new activities,
cultivating a new culture, fostering a new habit.

iii. support, or invest in a local project within KPMIM/ KPMSI.

iv. ensure that the legacy project would benefit the students of KPMIM/KPMSI in the
long run.
Task 2 (Social Awareness Initiative)

Social Awareness Initiatives

i. You may choose one of the topics below:

a. Academic Problems
b. Cyberbullying and Bullying at Schools
c. Dating and Relationships
d. Depression, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders
e. Eating Disorders and Obesity
f. High Parental Expectation
g. Internet and Online Addiction
h. On-screen Violence
i. Peer Pressure and Competition
j. Addiction to Pornography
k. Premarital Sex and Abstinence
l. Self-esteem and Body Image
m. Social skills: Courtesy and Etiquette

ii. Organise an initiative to instill the awareness of coping with adolescent angst
among KPMIM/ KPMSI students.

Task 3 (Social Media Campaign)

In Social Media Campaign, you have to show your complete understanding of the
theories and concepts in the Sociology Course that should be shared, highlighted during
the duration of your campaign. It can be produced in a form of picture, video, or songs.

You are required to:

i. share information, issue and topic that is relevant to the human right and context
of their campaign in the form of Retweets and post of various relevant media
and links.

ii. manage and utilise the media creatively and effectively by producing their own
original content such as video, images, audios, Tweets and post that report the
progress of their campaign and demonstrate their understanding of the human
right and any sociological concept.

and support the campaign with a media text that informs and inspires change in
the world around them.

Task 4 (Social Experiment)

i. Your experiment must test at least one existing Theory or Concept in Sociology
which you are learning throughout the semester.

ii. The experiment should investigate one of the issues in the topic chosen which
exist in your local community.

iii. Collect the data from two different social groups such as male and female,
friends and strangers or generation Y and generation.

iv. Compare the two sets of data and identify the sociological phenomenon that
could be observed from the data.

v. Use the sociological theory or concept to explain the sociological imagination


observed.
Task 5 (Exhibition)

a. Exhibition

After all the activities have been conducted, you have to exhibit the outcome of your
campaign by organizing a booth and gallery.

The booth and gallery are going to be assessed according the following criteria :

i. the design of the booth and gallery creatively, and uniquely as well as it should
be relevant to the campaign that has been conducted.

ii. the gimmick (the booth’s main attraction), activities (games and demonstration)
and costumes of the members creatively, it must original.

iii. the gallery with relevant information on the topic and issue that are related to
adolescent angst in the form of posters, photographs and infographics.

b. Presentations

You need to divide the task equally for the presentations of your Final Project to
ensure all members of the group are able to present their views and experiences.

In the presentations, you should ensure:

i. ideas are clearly developed; uses specific, appropriate examples; skillful


transitions; and well organized.

ii. the presentations are original; and take advantage of audience’s attention.

iii. facts presented may cover wide range of issues and topics which are
interesting, and comprehensive.

iv. the team shows excellent team work and enthusiasm about the campaign.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Each team is compulsory to come up with a Gantt Chart by assigning members


working systematically on every activities including the report writing. The Gantt Chart
should be adhered to ensure the project is well executed and completed on time.

Part 2: Written Report

Each group is compulsory to produce a comprehensive report on the project which


focus on the 5 activities that have been conducted by using the proper report format.

Submit the report within 5 working days after the exhibition has finished.
