LESSON AIMS: 1 Read the text about bread


2 Introduce the unknown vocabulary items: nouns - baker, bakery, flour, yeast, wheat,
dough, loaves, oven
verbs – to add, to rise, to mix, to knead
3 Teach the irregular plural loaf  loaves
4 Teach the Passive Voice (Present Simple)

ACTIVITY 1
AIM: Pre-reading activities
PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING
Discuss the picture which contains different kinds of bread. Ask the T-st 1 min
students to name the kinds of bread that they see.
Help students to identify the kinds of bread. T-st 3 min
Write a list on the whiteboard, classifying them according to colour,
the cereal from which the flour is made and the shape.
Continue the discussion about different kinds of bread. Ask students T-st 2 min
the following questions: What kind of bread do you eat? When do you
eat bread?

ACTIVITY 5
AIM: Teaching irregular plurals
PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING
Ask students how do we usually form the plural in English T-st 2 min
Give them singular nouns and ask them to say the plural form: girl – Individual work
girls, flower – flowers, child – children. man-men
Write the noun country on the whiteboard T-st 2 min
Explain the changes that we make to form the plural: yi + -es
Write other nouns that form the plural in the same way:
baby – babies, dictionary – dictionaries, fry- fries
Write the noun loaves on the whiteboard T-st 2 min
Ask the students to identify the singular form of this noun
Provide the correct singular form
Explain the changes that we make to form the plural when the noun
ends in –f or –fe: fv + -es
Write other nouns that form the plural in the same way:
knife – knifes, leaf- leaves, life-lives

ACTIVITY 6
AIM: Teach Passive Voice (Present Simple)
PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING
Write a sentence in the active voice on the whiteboard and ask the T-st 3 min
students to identify the verb and the tense. Individual work
The baker bakes bread. Bakes – present simple tense
Ask students to make the necessary changes so that the sentence will
start with bread and will have the same meaning.
Write the correct sentence in the passive voice
The bread is baked by the baker.
Explain the changes that appeared. T-st 5 min
Focus on the tense, which is still present simple but the form for
passive voice is to be + verb3 (past participle)
Draw arrows and use coloured markers to show them that the subject
from the active sentence will become the agent in the passive sentence
and the object from the active voice will become the subject in the
passive voice.

AIM: Practice the new structure
PROCEDURE INTERACTION TIMING
Write on the whiteboard several sentences in the active voice T-st 5 min
Ask students to provide the passive forms for these sentences. Individual work
Nominate 5 students to read their sentences and to write them on the T-st 3 min
whiteboard.
Ask student to make exercise 1 page 34 (Practice Book) where they T-st 5 min
have to write sentences in the passive voice using the given verbs and Individual work
pictures.
Name 6 students to read the sentences. T-st 2 min

HOMEWORK: Exercise 3 page 45 – identify the new vocabulary based on the given pictures
(Workbook)
Exercise 2 page 46 – complete the spaces with the correct form of the verb in order to
make correct passive sentences. (Workbook)
Exercise 1,2 – write the plural form for the following nouns ( printed material)
