INTRODUCTION
The Bauer MV 120-5.5-2 compressor is an air flow-cooled compressor with three cylinders.
The air is compressed in three stages with inter-cooling between each stage and with airflow
cooling on all surfaces.
DESCRIPTION OF COMPRESSOR
The compressor is equipped with an automatic condensate drain system which drains all
separators between the individual stages and also the final separator, whilst the compressor is
running. The operation is calibrated to operate every fifteen minutes for a 6 second period
while the compressor is running. The condensate is collected in a removable drain tank of 5
litre capacity.
In addition the compressor is also equipped with a ‘Securus’ filter cartridge monitoring
system which constantly monitors the saturation of the filter cartridge. The condition of the
cartridge is indicated by a series of lights on the front of the ‘Securus’ unit.
The Bauer charging panel is a remote charging facility, which eliminates the flexible leads
for charging. A fixed line from the compressor final delivery connects to the charging panel.
At the panel, the delivery air is sent to the charging adaptors on the table via four lines
operated by a lever to open and close. The charging adaptors on the table are numbered 1 – 4
reading from left to right, which correspond with the similar operating levers on the panel.
LOCATION
There are five Bauer MV 120 -5.5-2 compressors based at the Brigade Training &
Development Centre, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Ludlow and Market Drayton Fire Stations.

TO CHARGE CYLINDERS
• Open (pull forward) the black operating lever on the charging panel, for each
connection required.
• Open the cylinder valve fully. The cylinder pressures will now equalise.
• Start the compressor. Charging will automatically stop when the correct pressure has
been obtained.
• Close (push back) the black operating lever on each lead used. The lines will now
bleed down.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The following safety precautions should be observed when using the Bauer MV 120-5.5-2
compressor and Bauer charging panel:
• Never operate the black lever unless a cylinder is connected to the line for charging.
• Check the compressor log sheet (FB75) to ensure that an oil check has been carried
out. If in doubt, check the oil level before charging as detailed in the ‘Operating
Instructions’. Check the air purity certificate to ensure that it is in date. Air purity
checks are carried out every three months.
• In the event of an emergency, stop the compressor at the emergency stop (if fitted) or
the main switch and not at the stop button on the compressor.
DEFECT REPORTING
All defects to compressors must be reported to Technical Services during normal office hours
and to Control outside office hours. Technical Services will arrange for all repairs to be
carried out. The compressor must be taken out of operational service until repaired by the
authorised contractor.
