36−00 GENERAL
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A320 AND A318
The differences between A320 and A318 on engine bleed system with
CFM56−5B engines are:
The Temperature Limitation Thermostat (TLT) is replaced.
 The Precooler is replaced.
On A318 the TLT fitted does not include a thermostatic rod.
The installed PreCooler Exchanger (PCE) is an enhanced compact type ex-
changer.
These modifications have no impact on the components physical interface and
A/C location.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

To improve the operation of the engine bleed air, the temperature limitation
function of the TLT has been deleted.
When 235 C (455 F) is reached, the Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) no lon-
ger decreases the pressure to reduce the temperature downstream.
To replace the TLT function, the thermal efficiency of the PCE has been im-
proved and the high outlet temperature threshold has been reduced.
If the PCE outlet temperature reaches 240 C (464 F), the Bleed Monitoring
Computer (BMC) generates a class 2 maintenance message “AIR BLEED“ on
the ECAM STATUS page. An associated maintenance message“THRM (Ther-
mostat), FAV (Fan Air Valve) or sense line“ can be seen on the MCDU.
