Lesson Plan on Persuasive Speech

Theme : Persuasive Speech (Environment)


Subtheme : Save Our Earth
Time Allocation : 90 min.

A. Goals
- By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the elements of persuasive
speech and what constitutes “good persuasive speech”
- By the end of the course, students will become aware of the way they do the persuasive
speech and be able to identify the specific areas in which improvement is needed.
- By the end of the course, students will have developed the ability to make a good
persuasive speech draft under the topic of environment.
- . By the end of the course, students will have developed a positive attitude toward
persuasive speech (environment)

B. Objectives

a. Students will be able to choose a good topic of persuasive speech provided by the teacher
(bullying, environment, social media).
b. Students will be able to brainstorm their ideas to create a good persuasive speech draft.
c. Students will be able to develop their ideas to create a good persuasivespeech draft.
d. Students will be able to use various kind of aids in delivering persuasive speech (video,
ppt slides, pictures)
e. Students will be able to deliver a persuasive speech under the topic of bullying, social
media, and environment with correct pronunciation.
f. Students will be able to deliver a persuasive speech under the topic of bullying, social
media, and environment with correct timbre.
g. Students will be able to deliver a persuasive speech under the topic of bullying, social
media, and environment with appropriate articulation.
h. Students will be able to deliver a persuasive speech under the topic of environment with
appropriate gestures and facial expressions.
i. Students will be able to use the expressions of persuading in their persuasive speech to
persuade the reader.

Intro 1. Opening the course with establishing rapport (greeting, 10 min
classroom checking) and continue with pray lead by one
student.
2. Warming up activity
 Make sure everyone is ready.
 Arose the students motivation to learn.
 Communicating the learning objectives.
3. Asking about school events to activate students’
background knowledge
4. Introducing Persuasive Speech to students.
5. Orientation of the topic on Persuasive Speech.

Main Activity 1. Teacher can ask question to attract students interest 65 menit
on persuasive speech.
Example of question:
a. How do you feel when you are walking in a city
with full of polution?
b. What will you do to reduce that polution?
c. Imagine if you can persuade a lot of people to
use public transportation so we can reduce the
polution.

2. Teacher giving students list of vocabulary in
accordance with the topic (environment) for students
to try out. Example: Environment, nature, rubbish,
atmosphere, climate, creature, disaster, flood,
earthquake, recycle, etc.

3. The students are given the video and the transcript as


the main sources of the lesson.

4. The studentare asked to watch and try to think about


the video that they have watched. (vocabulary used)

5. With the teacher guidance, students will learn and


discover the difficulties speech (the meaning, the
pronunciation, the intonation, etc.)

6. The teacher explain about the tenses and other


grammatical items used in the persuasive speech

7. The students are asked to discuss with their partner


about the important aspects they have learnt from the
video (persuasive speech order).

8. With the teacher guidance, the students will practice to


pronounce the words and try to read aloud.

After getting the discussion related to the video and the


transcript, students are asked to discuss some topics.
Topics:
1. Should we be recycling our rubbish at home?
2. We need to act NOW on climate change

9. Discussion 1: Problem based learning activities. The


teacher gives one or two topics and gathers students in
one big group.

10. Discussion 2: Students are asked discuss one or two


topics related to the environments’ problem, are they
have the solution for the problem and explain it.

11. Discussion 3: Students will start to make outline of


speech. One student will practice one part only
(opening, body, pre-closing, closing)

12. The students are asked to consult with the teacher after
make their outline

13. The students will learn about the tenses and other
grammatical items used in the persuasive speech.

14. The students work in pairs (A&B), A deliver his/her


speech then B giving comment and vice versa

15. Students review their performance they will reflect


their persuasive speech to know their weaknesses and
then with the teacher guidance, they have to fix it.

16. They should consult with the teacher after they make
their outline.

17. students will deliver their individual performance in


front of the class and will be asses by their teacher.
Closing 1. Teacher give some feedback 15 min.
2. Students, together with teacher reflect on what they have
done in class:
- what students have learnt?
- What students has not understand?
- How does it feel during the class?

3. Students, together with teacher conclude the material for


the class.

4. Students listen to the tacher about the activity. That is:


Persuasive speech on environment.
5. Class is closed with pray lead by a student.
