words and politicking as much as guns and bombs. We are transitioning into a world were our
enemies, are not always physical threats, and are not always what we usually perceived as evil.
One such conflict, which plagues stage four demographic countries across the whole world, is
illegal immigration. When illegal immigration is discussed on television, political debates and
other news sources in the United States, it is in the context of our current influx of immigration
from Mexico. But not just the US is experiencing issues with undocumented immigration, a mass
of individuals, most of whom are displaced persons, are entering the majority of the countries in
Europe. As we become part of this new world we need to solve this issues in stride, we need to
The more prominent example of illegal immigration in our lives, which is the easiest to
relate to, is the direct illegal immigration from Mexico into the southern states of the US. 12.5
million Mexican born individuals alone (not counting children who were born on US soil) lived
in the United states as of 2011, 51% where illegal immigrants (statistics from pg.6-7 PEW Net
Migration). This large population of illegals come to the United States for several reasons, but
two reasons stand out and both have very negative consequences for our country. The two major
reasons are financial and illicit activities; specifically the occupation of our nations jobs, and the
sales and transport of guns, drugs, and even human trafficking slaves. The implications of our
jobs being taken up are massive, that’s around 6 million jobs a year taken up by individuals who
have broken laws to take those jobs. Not only that but a large majority of these immigrants have
families still in mexico and other countries of origin, families which they are send money to, our
nation’s money being sent into the economies of other countries without any benefit to our
country. Meanwhile a massive influx in crime, drugs, and other forms of illicit behavior run
rampant in our cities, especially those of southwest US. Las Angeles in Southern California is
plagued by drugs and gang violence, both created and facilitated by illegal drugs being brought
from large drug cartel states, such as Columbia, and past the mexican border by Mexican cartels.
“The grisly discoveries came as US President Barack Obama visited Mexico on Monday, tracing
a spotlight on the country's war against drug gangs transporting cocaine from Andean nations to
the United States, the world's largest consumer” (Mexican drug violence kills 18, Times of
Oman). A massive amount of the crime in our country is due to illegal immigration.
America is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to undocumented persons entering
illegally. While the large majority of individuals coming to America are entering in secrecy, and
our population is large enough to still out number immigrants, Europe is dealing with a wave of
immigrants from the middle east, and Africa. People are seen rushing in large quantities into
European states such as France, Germany, and Britain.“This week in Calais they have clambered
over security fences, rushed en masse for Dover-bound ferries and been turned back only by riot
police and fire hoses.”(Turning The Tide, The Times). The hordes of displaced persons are
mostly refugees and their families, who are coming from countries that are currently in turmoil.
Syrians, Africans of all sorts and people from other regions in the middle east and asia are
leaving their home countries because of wars, unjust government and terrorism. “it is believed
that over 500,000 migrants from Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East were being
The population in Europe is quite large, compared to the relatively little land, already. These
large surges of people are stressing european states social and economically; years of culture are
being undermined by illegals taking over the living spaces and land of the European populace.
The biggest threat, however, that the refugee crisis posses, is terrorism. The allowance of illegal,
undocumented individuals in European cities, and sometimes in America too, leads to members
of dangerous terrorist and cartel groups entering unnoticed and causing many deaths. The lack of
immigration control and evaluation is leading up to a massive crisis that could very well destroy
The very real crisis being seen here has to be dealt with, but how is anyone to control
masses of aliens entering our nation or any other? It's hard to control a stretch of land as long as
the southern US border, and near impossible to turn away millions of people surging toward your
land, but there are ways to deter this threat before it becomes too desperate. Here in the United
States we have an extensive government and we founded courts of law. We have the manpower
to guard and administrate a physical rampart and admission system into the US, that way we may
filter those who are harmful from those who are in earnest need and can help our nation grow.
We could easily create a system to sort through the masses, in a way that will benefit this country
and those who are trying to come in in the safest way possible. Building of well kept, extensive
fortitudes and a large workforce that can sort through many individuals without flaw, in addition
to a yearly quota that would limit the influx population, beyond those in place, would stop illicit
activities caused by illegal immigration and help both the US and Mexico solve several
socio-political issues. “It is essential to verify visitors' identities and ensure they abide by the
terms of their entry. Creating secure borders requires Congress to support a balance of resources,
law and policy”(Janice Kephart, Center of Immigration Studies). European immigration issues,
however, are harder to crack. The source of these issues is the increasingly dire situation in
smaller demographically staged countries such as those in Asia minor and Africa. To eliminate
the problems with emigration in these regions we need to stop the conflict that is perpetually
present there. “The vast majority of asylum applicants in the European Union that year were
from Syria, followed by Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kosovo.” (Migrant Fallout in Europe, Center of
terrorists from ending up in safe camps, and the establishment of camps in places close to
refugee fleeing countries would be on of the first steps to ensuring protection of the refugees and
prevent the surging of displaced persons into European countries. “Given the high costs of
resettling refugees in the United States, providing for them in neighboring countries in the
Middle East may be a more cost-effective way to help them.” (Resettling Middle Eastern
Refugees, Center for Immigration Studies). The second step would be physical, possibly militant
aid from tens of countries, members of UN and other superpowers who can supply large forces
to eliminate individual threats. The process would be lengthy and arduous but eventually those
displaced persons may be able to go home to better lives. The process of protecting and
redirecting instead of blatant refusal of entry may be more effective with the scope and scale of
The 21st century is dominated by new social conflicts, new issues in our country, and
new problems for the world at large. Illegal immigration is one such problem we are having to
face now. Nations including ours are suffering and being harmed by illicit activities spearheaded
by illegal immigration. The issues at hand, mending the rift that is created by the large quantity
of aliens in our country and preventing the desolation inner cities are stricken with due to drug
and weapon trafficking, are only solvable with immediate decisive action. By bringing a stop to
the illegal actions through force and, also, understanding we are able to make the withholding of
entry into the US and other countries a just, fair, way of preserving our freedoms. We are able to
protect our country, stopping illegal activity and lessening crime rates, all while getting those
who deserve it, freedom. The threat of illegal immigration is vitally important in our modern
world, by protecting the freedom and strength of Europe and the US we ensure that our legacy
won’t fall. We will stand up to the crisis at hand, and we will protect the economies and heritage
of the nations at risk, but most importantly we will stop the unjust and evil in this world from
