Construction:
• The alternators is self excitated brushless machine consisting of main stator, main field and internaly
implemented exciter.
For power supply to the automatic voltage regulator the alternators are equipped with an auxiliary winding.
• Stator:
A welded design is used for the stator housing. The stator core pack consists of hydraulically pressed, low-loss
dynamo laminations. It is pressed together with the housing via pressure plates to form a compact unit. This
ensures a stiff construction appropriate for the special operating conditions for Diesel generating sets.
The stator winding is insulated in accordance with insulation class F or H (see type and price list) acc. to VDE
0530 / IEC 34.
The winding heads and wirings are supported by suitable fastening elements and firmly linked together by
mechanical means to guard against electrodynamic loads caused by current forces.
• Rotor:
The rotor consists of the shaft the main revolving field, exciter rotor and rotating rectifier with rectifier protection
elements.
The main revolving field in salient pole design consists of hydraulically pressed lamination sheets or of steel
plates. A damper cage is installed as standard, with the bars electrically connected within the pole shoes as
well as from pole to pole.
The main rotor windings are made of flat copper and are protected against centrifugal forces by suitable
components.
As standard the rotor is dynamically balanced with half key acc. to VDE 0530 / IEC 34, part 14. Other shaft
designs are available on request.
• Bearing plates:
Bearing plates are welded. The alternator feet are integrated in the bearing plates or located as near as
possible to the bearing plates in order to grant optimum vibration stiffness.

Bearings Flanged (bracket mounted) sleeve bearings, with oil-ring lubrication and
permanent filling or roller bearings (see type and price list). At some
machines (bigger sizes), a water cooling can be used. At machines frame
size 630 mm and higher or medium voltage machines the bearing at non-
drive end is insulated, for smaller machines could be optionally modified
(see price list). At smaller machines under request.
The driven end could be equipped with earthing brush
Terminal box With 4 terminals (L1-L2-L3-N), starpoint built in terminal box. 6 terminals
at request.
Gland plates: Main- and auxiliary terminal boxes including coverplate, drilling to be
performed by customer.
Please request in case of need of cable glands or MCT frames
Current transformers: Terminal box suitable for 3 pcs. current transformers
..... / 5 A, class 10P10, 15 VA for differential protection purpose.
Transformators are not included
Other transformer data and/or double- resp. triple core transformers are
suitable on request.
Auxiliary connections: 1Fx3 and 1Fx4 include a separate terminal box for low voltage
connections (temperature monitoring, heater, excitation resp. de-
excitation terminals, regulator).
Remarks:
• Other cooler materials, e.g. for sea water cooling, are suitable. Please see price list.
• At higher water inlet temperature the output is to be reduced by app.1 % per each degree higher temperature.

Parallel operation: Alternator suitable for parallel operation with other alternators.

Sustained short circuit current: 3 x rated current for 3 s. at 3-pole terminal short-circuit
Overload: 10 % for 1 h, within 6 hours.
or: Acc. to IEC 34/VDE 0530, i.e. 50 % for 30 sec.
“THF” The requirement laid down by the EN 60034-1 (IEC 34) standard is easily
maintained.
Harmonic content: The harmonic content is ≤ 2 % measured between phases at no load up
to nominal load and power factor of cos phi 0.1 … 1 under symmetrical
and linear loads.
The winding is optimised in order to keep the 5th and 7th harmonics
measured between the phases as low as possible.
Non-linear loads: The alternators are thermically suitable for a high content of non-linear
loads:
6-pulse converters: Up to 85 % of rated load,
12-/18-/24-pulse converters: Up to 90 % of rated load.
The actual values of waveform deviation have to be calculated after
information by the customer about the current deviation (amount of
harmonics) of his consumers.

Basic Technical Description
Quality assurance: Offer, order handling, manufacturing and testing are done
according to ISO 9001. Approval of DNV for welder for EN 729-
2:1994 is available.
Technical Options:
• See water coolers:
The price addition for sea water coolers is confirmed at the Type and Price List
• Emergency air flaps at coolers:
At both sides of the cooling element, emergency air flaps are performed. In case of cooler failures resp. at
failing cooling water supply, after opening of emergency air-outlets, 85 % of rated power can be supplied. The
enclosure type at emergency operation is IP 21. Price addition is mentioned in the Type and Price List
• Self-lubricated sleeve bearings:
As above list covers a wide range of speeds and frame sizes (different rotor weights etc.), we request you to
ask on a case to case basis what kind of bearing should be performed.
Smaller machines will probably be operated with roller bearings, bigger types require sleeve bearings,
eventually water-cooled sleeve bearings.
• Flange type receptacle:
Shaft flanges for every kind of prime mover can be performed. Please give details in case of need. Price
addition is confirmed at the Type and Price List.
• Delivery FOB:
Basic prices include delivery DDU Germany. Seaworthy packing are confirmed at the Type and Price List.
• Enclosure, cooling method:
Please see attached Type and Price List for price differences for different enclosure and cooling method.
