Collection of cells held together by junctions make up tissues and organs that carry out related functions.
Types of Tissues
Are membrane spanning CHONs (supportive and spreading fxn) responsible for:
1. Cell-cell junctions
-essential for normal growth and development
Ex. Nerve-CAMs help growing nerve cells creep across extracellular matrix.
2. Transient Cell adhesions
-adhesions which are not permanent.
Bond between CAMs and matrix is weak.
Ex. CAMs help WBC escape circulation and move into infected tissues; CAMs allows clumps of platelets to cling to damaged blood
vessels.
