Step 1: Request the Appropriate Letters
from ISSS
If
you
do
NOT
have
a
social
security
number,
you
must:
1. Request
two
letters
from
ISSS:
1)
the
“social
security
denial
letter,”
and
2)
a
“driver’s
license
letter.”
You
may
request
the
letters
online
at
the
link
below,
then
pick
it
up
three
business
days
later
in
the
Office
of
International
Affairs.

2. You
must
take
the
social
security
denial
letter,
plus
your
immigration
documents
(passport,
I-‐20,
visa,
and
I-‐94)
to
the
Social
Security
Administration
located
at
1500
Champa
Street,
2nd
floor
Suite
200.
There
you
will:
a. Complete
a
form
requesting
a
social
security
number
and
give
both
the
form
and
the
social
security
denial
letter
from
ISSS
to
the
attendant.
b. The
attendant
confirms
that
you
are
not
eligible
for
a
social
security
number
and
give
you
a
letter
so
stating.

You
may
request
the
letters

the

then
pick
it
up

business
days
later
in
the
Office
of
International

A. If
you
are
NOT
an
experienced
driver,
join
a
school
for
the
30
hours
of
classroom
training
and
at
least
6
hours
of
“behind
the
wheel”
practice.
1. You
can
find
a
list
of
qualified
driving
schools
from
the
Department
of
Motor
Vehicles’
website
or
as
a
PDF.
Most
schools
are
authorized
by
the
Colorado
Department
of
Motor
Vehicles
to
give
both
the
written
test
and
the
driving
test
(check
the
PDF
at
the
link
above),
and
some
have
Chinese
speakers.
2. Take
30
hours
of
classroom
or
online
instruction
and
pass
the
25-‐question
written
test
(must
get
80%
correct).
Once
you
have
the
certificate
from
the
driving
school
that
you’ve
past
the
test,
go
to
letter
C
below.
B. If
you
ARE
an
experienced
driver,
you
may
go
to
the
Mississippi
Avenue
DMV
(1865
W.
Mississippi
Ave.

Denver,
CO
80223)
and
take
the
25-‐question
written
exam.
You
must
get
80%
correct
to
pass.
C. Obtain
a
Driver’s
Permit
at
the
Mississippi
Avenue
DMV
office
(1865
W.
Mississippi
Ave.
#C,
Denver,
CO
80223)
or
any
full-‐service
location
by
doing
the
following:
1. Present
proof
of
passing
the
written
test.
2. Present
proof
of
address
and
immigration
documents
(passport,
I-‐20,
and
I-‐94).
If you are not enrolled in a school, schedule your driving test through the DMV website
