Cancer develops when normal cell in a particular part of body

begins to grow out of control. There are different types of cancer

Cells. Some of the major causes are
 Genetically modified foods like corn and soya.
 Microwave popcorn is at the center of lung cancer debate
around the world.
 When red meats are grilled at a certain point molecular
structure changes and causes cancer.
 Refined sugar causes cancer.
 Salted and Smoked food.
 Soda and Carbonated beverages
 White flour, farmed fish and hydrogenated oils causes cancer
 Staging is the term to know about the size of
cancer and how far it is been grown.
 It is important to know the stages of cancer as
with that the doctors are able to give
prescribed treatment for the cancer patients

The stages comes under two types of

representation :

 TNM representation.
 Number representation.
 T describes the size of the cancer cells. It is
numbered from 1 (Small) to 4 (Big).

 N describes whether the cancer cells has been

spread to lymph nodes (a small swellings which
filters a fluid called lymph). It is numbered as 0 (no
lymph nodes containing cancer cells) and 3 (large
no of lymph nodes containing cancer cells).

 M describes the metastatis (spreading nature) of

cancer cells. It is either 0 (not spreaded) or 1
(spreaded).
Stage 1 : It is the very beginning stage of growth of cancer.
The cells are spreaded to small area. The chance of curing is
90%.

Stage 2 : In this stage the cells starts to spread to lymph nodes.

Symptoms of weight loss gradually, decrease in hemoglobin count,
feeling tired easily occurs.

Stage 3 : In this stage it almost kills entire tissue and lymph nodes. In
this stage the disease cannot be cured except if the tissue is
removed.

Stage 4 : It is the deadly stage. The patient cannot be able to

survive as the cancer tumor almost spreads the entire body.
The immune system is the body’s defense against
infection and cancer. It is made up of billions of cells
that are divided into several different types.

Lymphocytes, a subtype of white blood cells, comprise a

major portion of the immune system. There are three types
Of lymphocytes
 B lymphocytes (B cells) make antibodies to fight
infection
 T lymphocytes (T cells) and natural killer (NK) cells
directly kill infected or cancerous cells and also talk to
other cells of the immune system using chemicals
known as “cytokines.” Immunotherapy
 Is a type of treatment that utilizes the body’s
own immune system to fight cancer.
 Improves the body’s ability to detect and kill
cancer cells.
 Is based on the concept that immune cells or
antibodies can recognize and kill cancer cells.
 Immune cells or antibodies can be produced
in the laboratory under tightly controlled
conditions and then given to patients to treat
cancer. Several types of immunotherapy are
either approved for use or are under study in
clinical trials to determine their effectiveness in
treating various types of cancer.
Each year, the parents of approximately
15,700 kids will hear the words “your child has
cancer.”
Despite major advances – from an overall
survival rate of 10 percent just fifty years ago
to nearly 90 percent today, for many rare
cancers, the survival rate is much lower.
Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases
annually has not declined in nearly 20 years.
 Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.
 12% of children diagnosed with cancer do not
survive.
 Children’s cancer affects all ethnic, gender and
socio-economic groups.
 The average age of children diagnosed is six.
 More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for
cancer each year.
 60% of children who survive cancer suffer late-
effects, such as infertility, heart failure and
secondary cancers.
 That equates to 1 in 530 adults ages 20-39.
The major factors causing childhood cancer are genetic modifications,
exposure to radiation, effects of carcinogenic agents such as pesticides,
house hold chemicals, etc.

 Preconception diet a baby is a product of the nutrients that

reaches the mother, avoid junk foods during pregnancy and
have a proper diet with all essential nutrients and minerals,
 Having a proper maternal diet can prevent the child from
cancer,
 Try to lead a non-toxic lifestyle, reduce the use of pesticides,
house hold chemicals, etc. prolonged exposure to these
chemicals by the parents may bring impact on their children,
 Intake of proper nutrients regular intake of fruits, greens and
vegetables can help children to prevent cancer,
 Stay away from prolonged exposure of radiations such as x-
rays (both parents and children)
