AIM, BENEFIT AND IMPORTANCE OF TRANSLATION

Translation is the process of changing the language that is written or spoken to another
language. Translation, In a loose sense, may also be defined as a word or phrase or test in
another language that has a meaning equivalent to that of the original.
Translation is one of the various branches of learning and it has become an important
discipline that encompasses separate body of knowledge being very much in use for various
human activities, just to name a few are: language, business, education, law, religion, literature
and legal requirements; while many more may be explored. Translation deals with the matching
of words, grammatical structures and cultural contexts.

A. Aims Of Translation

 According to Schreiber, aim of translation is to replace the source text with the target
text for somebody, who has no access to it due to insufficient language knowledge.
 The primary aim of translation is to convey the message or the meaning of the original
text. It’s mean, translation to transfer certain intellectual and aesthetic values from one
language to another. (I M.A English-Translation: Theory and Practice)
 The aim of translation is to provide semantic equivalence; however, there are many
problems hidden within this apparently simple statement, all to do with what standards
of ‘equivalence’ should be expected and accepted.

B. Benefits Of Translation

 Reach a wider audience: Why stay local when your products and services can meet
the needs of a larger audience? Translation helps your business open up to markets
that you thought didn't exist before.
 Internet commerce: Operating a business online is not uncommon; even if your
website is targeted towards a particular set of people in a country, you'd often find
people from many corners of the world visiting your website. Translating the content
on your website into various languages will help visitors from all over the world
understand your offering better and will help increase your sales revenues.
 Technical translation: Many companies have very technical text and specific jargons
that need to be translated; this is usually seen in technical manuals, product brochures,
etc. Translation helps convert technical documentation into various languages, thus
helping users in diverse locations understand jargons better, in their own language.
 Understanding cultural identities and differences: Translation unassumingly offers an
insight into the culture and attitudes of another country. For instance, when reading
English books from authors such as Shakespeare, Agatha Christie or George Orwell
in any other language, we learn something about the culture or mentality. A similar
experience can be had when watching foreign language movies with English subtitles.
 Travel and Tourism: Perhaps one of the greatest impacts that translation has had is in
the area of tourism. Translation has enabled people from one country truly appreciate
and understand the culture and beauty of another country.

C. Importances Of Translation

The importance of translation emerges by the reason that it is one of the important
disciplines being very much useful in various spheres of human activities. Besides, a large
number of languages spoken or written all over the world, and, as such, an individual would
not like to be confined to one language or the native language only, but preferably would be
interested to learn different language for a specific purpose. The need and importance of
translation also arises when one wants to know the words or phrases or a language used in other
countries so as to familiarize oneself for a particular purpose. As a matter of interest, translation
is also important when it is considered or when a person forms thoughts about how it would be
possible to be mingled with the people of different country if he needs to stay in connection
with the business or employment. Moreover, there are times that necessitate sharing beliefs,
values, customs, practices and the social behavior of a particular nation. In such circumstances,
the art of translation becomes the very essence of the instances.
