Social media applications have gained much popularity in the recent years, improving

the way people communicate with each other, exchanging and sharing various kinds of
information. There are social media sites that have millions of members allowing them to share
photos, videos, text messages, and more on a regular basis. However, these sites are architected
based on a centralized paradigm, which limits the mobility of their users and ultimately, their
chances for establishing new relationships and benefiting from diverse networking services.
Studies shown that Philippines was named as the social media capital of the world, the reason
why we chose this topic for our survey.

These past few days, we conducted a survey with the aim of knowing the favorite social
media application of the Western Mindanao State University Senior High School Students. After
tallying the results, out of 100 respondents, Facebook has 51 votes, Twitter with 12 votes,
Instagram has 22 votes, Tumblr with 8 votes, and lastly, others (like Kakao Talk, Viber) got 7
votes. The pie graph below best represents the percent (out of 100) that each choice obtained.
Facebook = 51%, Twitter = 12%, Instagram = 22%, Tumblr = 8% and Others = 7%

Others

Twitter

After analyzing the data we’ve gathered, it just shows that Facebook is the Senior High School
students’ most favorite social media application that they use, having half of the respondents’
votes. While Others (like Viber, Kakao Talk) is the least favorite social media application of the
students. Out of the 4 specific social media applications, Tumblr is the next least favorite of the
students after Others. Social media is becoming an integral part of life online as social websites
and applications proliferate. Social media applications have various uses that can help improve
the different aspects in our life. For instance, in business, social media is used to market
products, promote brands, connect to current customers and foster new business. Social media
offers promising features that can make people think twice about how they utilize this platform.
There are a large number of advantages and disadvantages to using such sites that leave
researchers wondering if we are better off without it. That’s why we must use these applications
wisely.
