Diana Golden
1 Diana Golden , from Massachusetts, was a woman of incredible strength. She overcame her
handicap and challenged the world to become one of the greatest disabled athletes of all time.
2 What caused Diana’s disability was harsh cancer that attacked her body when she was just
twelve years old. As a result, doctors had to cut off one of her legs. The sportive girl who started
skiing at the age of five went to the skiing slopes after she had recovered from her surgery. She
joined the United states Disabled Ski Team,when she was sixteen.
3 During her life, Diana fought for the glory of the disabled. She once said: “ People used to
put us at the back . Now they don’t do that anymore. ”
4 Even when she was introduced on the television as the courageous girl who beats cancer at
the age of twelve and comes back to ski.
5 Diana’s accomplishments in disabled skiing competitions were awards, trophies and golden
medals. From 1986 to 1990 she won ten world and nineteen national championships. The united
states Olympic committee selected her as the female skier of the year.
