Read the text in which the writer talks about pollution , then answer the questions that follow.

Pollution

1. Pollution is and will always be as dangerous as wars. This means that both pollution and
wars lead to the destruction of all forms of life and the spread of diseases.
2. Pollution mainly affects water and air. Pollution of the sea results in polluted beaches.
The main source of pollution at sea is the oil dumped from ships. Oil floats on the surface
of the water, pollutes it and kills the sea birds, fish and sea animals thus, leads to a
complete shortage in fresh water.
3. Air pollution has long been a source of trouble in towns. It occurs due to many reasons:
Burning of fuel, driving and other industrial activities. These activities release a huge
amount of chemical substances in the air. Smoke from chimneys, factories, vehicles and
burning of wood release sulphur dioxide into the air making it toxic. The effects of air
pollution are evident. Release of sulphur dioxide and hazardous gases into the air causes
global warming and acid rain.
