To whom it may concern,

I have worked and currently work in a role that requires a lot of individual thinking or decision
making. An example would be my currently role as a Control Room Dispatcher with
Nottinghamshire Police. I regularly deal with incidents that are of a very sensitive and sometimes
serious nature and as such require effective and speedy decisions to be made. I assimilate
complex information quickly, weighing up alternatives and making sound, timely decisions. I
make decisions using a degree of gut feeling but justify this using force policy and the National
Decision-Making Model by establishing the threat, harm, risk and vulnerability surrounding a
particular incident. Using this model allows me to think in a constructive way and make clear,
proportionate and justifiable decisions, reviewing these as necessary. I actively build everything
into specific plans and actions, effectively managing competing priorities with available
resources.

At the heart of the work I do is a one team approach, to build effective working relationships
coming together to achieve better results and become more effective. This extends to external
agencies, other emergency services and private organisations. Working together as one team for
common goals and objectives allows knowledge and information to be exchanged through clear
communication and a collaborative approach and the most appropriate person or team to deal
with a task. This is something that is required of me daily. An example would be my previous
role as a Community Protection Officer. I was employed by the local authority but housed within
a local police station, integrated with local beat teams. I was part of a wider team where we could
use the skills and knowledge of each other to give the best possible service to citizens and
visitors to our respective area consulting widely and involving people in decision-making.

As a manger I believe it is important to be positive about change, adapt rapidly to changing

circumstances and encourage flexibility in others. I try to identify and implement improvements
to service delivery, engaging people in the change process and encouraging them to contribute
ideas. I have a real belief in public service, focusing on what matters to the public and will best
serve their interests.

I strive to gives direction and state expectations clearly and inspire people to meet challenging
goals and help create enthusiasm and commitment. I believe it is important to motivate staff by
giving genuine praise, highlighting success and recognising good performance ensuring honest
and constructive feedback is given to help people understand their strengths and weaknesses. I
can demonstrate forward thinking, anticipating and dealing with issues before they occur. I
actively monitor progress and hold people to account for delivery, highlighting good practice and
effectively addressing underperformance.

My secondary employment as a retained fire fighter is a safety critical role. I am on call ready to
respond to my local station to attend a range of incidents from fires to road traffic collisions. I
will always work with a team and never alone and as such need to ensure the safety of myself,
colleagues and those around me. An example of this would be a recent vehicle fire I attended, I
was given the role of breathing apparatus wearer along with a colleague, we were briefed to fire
fight and both took a hose reel. I had to be aware of where my college was at all times as the fire
was on a dark road, the smoke was thick and the fire was fully developed. I maintained visual
contact as much as possible and verbally updated as much as possible. I was fully aware of my
surroundings and the impact any actions I take could have. The fire service is no different to any
other organisation in that I must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act as far as
reasonably practicable. I understand safety is critical in a lot of work environments and always
ensure I have correct PPE as issued by my employers, wearing and using it as instructed. I will
always challenge any behaviour or action that compromises the safety of any individual as the
consequences can be devastating, not only for the people involved, but for the organisation as
well.

In my current role as a Control Room Dispatcher I am incident managing during every shift. We
currently create over 1000 incidents in a 24 hour period which are spread over six area talk
groups. During any shift I may have to go through over 10 outstanding urgent incidents which
need allocating within one hour, however we may not have enough resources to attend all within
that time so each incident must be understood and evaluated using the NDM as mentioned
previously. I must take into consideration that immediate emergency incidents will come through
which require a blue light response and have difficult choice to make to ensure I have resources
available to attend these calls and prioritise the less urgent calls to minimise the impact on
service users and the organisation.

I have held front line and back office roles that require a high level of customer service, honesty
and integrity such as Special Constable, Community Protection Officer, Security Officer and Fire
fighter. I currently work in a diverse environment where no two days are the same and each
service user will require something slightly different. Due to the work I do I often engage with a
lot of vulnerable people, sometimes these individuals are in a very bad place and have had to
gather a lot of courage to contact the police as such I must be very tactful, be open and be honest,
I must not make promises and always reassure.

Working within the police I am vetted to a very high standard and hold national security
clearance (SC) this includes sensitive checks on myself and immediate family and financial
checks. The PROUD values of Professional, Respect for all, One team, Utmost, honesty trust and
integrity and Doing it differently have been built into me. These are the values I work to and will
continue to work to regardless of my position. These are values I believe will work throughout
life and not just in a work environment. I actively engage in local PDR’s (Professional
Development Review) to look at what I have done well in and areas I have not performed as well
in so that I can assess and improve myself. These reviews are conducted annually, and evidence
work against requirements of the department as well as any personal goals and training
requirement.

I currently hold a full UK driving licence with no points and have held it for approximately nine
years. I have experience of driving marked emergency vehicles and using emergency lighting
equipment for reasons such as road closures and road traffic collisions. I am happy to work any
shift pattern as required and undertake any training relevant to the role. I have above average
knowledge of Microsoft word and excel as I currently use them for my current role and for
personal use. I am a keen user of computers and have a history of web design and programming
so consider myself to be a very competent user.

I would like to thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to read through my
application and I am more than happy to speak further to discuss any questions you may have. I
look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best for the future.

Yours faithfully,

Liam Gallagher
