The entire pit including walls and base raft will be modelled in STAAD for structural analysis. The Counterfort’s,Tie beams and
base raft are idealized using beam elements and soil is represented with linear elastic springs with values of subgrade reactions
(ks) attached to bottom of raft as supporting system

Note: For under ground pit walls abutting rock, the lateral earth pressure coefficients will be calculated appropriately giving due report
consideration to failure wedge formation. In such cases, generally there will not be any lateral pressures developed. if the back
fill behind the pit walls is done with PCC up to rock then no lateral earth pressures are considered in the design of walls etc

6 Design Pit walls & Rafts will be designed as cracked section with limiting crack width 0.1mm on earth/water face and 0.3mm

Hopper walls The hopper walls are designed for lateral ( coal / Ore) pressure frictional forces during filling and
emptying and forces due to impact and filling of arches of coal / Iron Ore.

Stability against uplift Minimum factor of safety will be 1.2 considering only chartercristic Dead load at 0.9 times actual
