chapter 1 Getting Started
1.1
Introduction
Engauge is a commissioning tool that optimizes the use of

Honeywell Enraf gauges during installation and operation.
It also includes device management, device configuration,
device diagnostics, and device optimization. Annual
inspections can be performed remotely on an entire site,
and give a quick and thorough overview of the site and
gauge status. Engauge is available in two versions:
Basic
Professional

Features of Engauge
The features of Engauge basic version are:

Fully supports GPU and FlexConn protocol over
RS232, BPM fieldbus, OneWireless, and HART
connections (only in FlexConn protocol)
Retrieves site configuration information and checks the
status of components and gauges
Supports first line diagnosis with reflection diagram for
radar gauges
Engauge professional version provides in-depth gauge

analysis with detailed reflection diagrams and Heimdall
tables. The analysis helps experienced specialists to fine
tune the gauge performance and optimize the result.
Attention
The license determines if you can use Engauge as a Basic
or a Professional version.

Installation
Prerequisites
Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0

Crystal Reports
To install Engauge
1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. If Auto Play is

enabled, the installation starts automatically. If not,
browse to the CD-ROM drive, and then double-click
Setup.exe.
Attention
If you do not have Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 or Crystal
Reports, the installation prompts you to install them. Click
Install to install the prerequisite components.
2. In the Honeywell Enraf Engauge 2.6 - InstallShield

Wizard, click Next.

Getting Started
The License Agreement window appears.
3. In the License Agreement window, read and click

the I accept the terms in the license agreement
option, and then click Next.
The Setup Type window appears.

4. Click Complete, and then click Next.
The Ready to Install a Program window appears
5. Click Install.
The installation may take few minutes.

6. After the installation is complete, click Finish.

License Request /Registration
To use Engauge, you need to have a valid license. If you

have received the license, file in an e-mail, save it anywhere
on your computer, and skip to Registration. The License
Manager places the license file in the following path:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Honeywell\Enraf.License.

Attention
If you are an existing user, you are prompted to replace
the old license with the new license, as you cannot have
multiple licenses of Engauge on the same computer.
If you have not received the license file, follow the

instructions given below to request for the license file.
To request for the license file
1. Click Start > All Programs > Honeywell Enraf >

License Manager > License Manager.
The License Manager - Honeywell Enraf window appears.

2. In the lower right of the License Manager window,

click Request.
The Enraf registration form appears.
3. Fill in the Enraf registration form, select Engauge from

the Application field, and then click Register.
A request is placed to Honeywell Enraf team, and you

will receive the license file in an e-mail.
4. Save the license file that you receive through e-mail on

your computer.
1.6 Registration
Before following the instructions given below, save the

license file that you have received by e-mail on your
computer.

click Browse.
3. Select the license file that you have saved on your

computer, and then click Open.
4. After the License is installed, click Exit to close the

Exploring the Workspace
The application is divided into two panes, the left pane,

and the right pane. The left pane is also referred as the
Site Explorer. The Site Explorer displays all the connected
instruments in the form of a tree structure. The right pane
displays the properties of the elements selected in the
Site Explorer.
Both the panes are empty when you start Engauge for the
first time.

chapter 2 Configuring the Site
2.1
Creating a New Site
A site consists of equipments that are connected to the
machine where Engauge is installed. The first step in using
Engauge is to create a site.
To create a new site
1. Choose File > New > Site.
The Site Control window appears. The Site Control

window shows the name of the sites that you
have created.

2. Click New.
The Site Name window appears.
3. In the Site Name box, type the site name, and then
click OK.
The Global Settings window appears.


4. In the Global Settings window, choose all the

dimensions that you want to use for this site.
Attention
Ensure that you are choosing the right dimensions in
the Global Settings window, as there are no options to
change these dimensions later on.
5. Click OK.
A dialog box appears to confirm the changes.
6. Click Yes to confirm the changes that you have done.

The site is created and properties of the site are
displayed in the Site Explorer.

7. The right pane has additional information about the site.

Update the properties of the site, and then click Apply.
New devices can be manually added or you can run a

site scan to get the devices automatically.

Opening an Existing Site
1. Choose File > Site.
The Site Control window appears.


Attention
If a site is already opened in the Site Explorer, you

cannot open any other sites. Close the open site first,
to open another site. To close the open site, choose
File > Close Site.
To open a site created in Engauge 2.5, you have
to convert the database to a new structure that is
compatible with Engauge 2.6. For more details, refer
chapter – Converting Engauge 2.5 Site to Engauge 2.6
Compatible Site.
2. Choose the site that you want to open, and then

click Select.
The Site Explorer displays the equipments that are

part of the site that you have selected.

Renaming a Site
1. Choose File > Open Site.
Attention
To rename a site, you need to open the Site Control
window. The site menu (File > Open Site) is disabled, if a
site is open in the Site Explorer. To enable the site menu,
first close the open site. To close the open site, choose
File > Close Site.
2. Choose the site that you want to rename, and then

click Rename.
The Site Name dialog box appears.
3. In the Site Name box, rename the site and then
click OK.
To open the site, choose the site, and then

click Select.

Importing a Site
1. Choose File > Site.
Attention
To import a site, you need to open the Site Control

window. The site menu (File > Open Site) is disabled,
if a site is open in the Site Explorer. To enable the site
menu, first close the open site. To close the open site,
choose File > Close Site.
To open a site created in Engauge 2.5, you have
to convert the database to a new structure that is
compatible with Engauge 2.6. For more details, refer
chapter – Converting Engauge 2.5 Site to Engauge 2.6
Compatible Site.
2. Click Import.
3. Browse to the folder where the .mdb file is saved.

Select the .mdb file, and then click Open.
To open the site, choose the site, and then

click Select.

Deleting a Site
Choose File > Open Site.
Attention
To delete a site, you need to open the Site Control
window. The site menu (File > Open Site) is disabled, if a
site is open in the Site Explorer. To enable the site menu,
first close the open site. To close the open site, choose
File > Close Site.


2. Choose the site that you want to delete, and then

click Delete.
The confirmation window appears.
3. Click Yes to confirm.
4. In the confirmation window, click Yes if you want to

delete the database entries and all the related files.



chapter 3 Site Scans
3.1 Site Scans
If a site is created and the physical connections are made,

Engauge can automatically scan the field for connected
instruments and field connectors (interfaces). Duplicate
gauge or interface addresses on one communication
line are not allowed. If you are in doubt about the unique
addresses (typically for new instruments), just connect
one, scan the field, use Engauge to change the address,
connect the next one, and scan the field and so on.
There are three kinds of site-scans:

GPU Site Scan
HART Site Scan
OneWireless Site Scan

GPU Site Scan
GPU Site Scan searches for GPU instruments with a BPM

connection like 854 Servo gauges, 87x and 97x Radar
gauges, 990 FlexConn radar gauges (with HCI-BPM)
and field-connectors with RS232 host connections like
SmartLink, CIU 858, and 880 CIU Prime.
Attention
Only devices with GPU X Record support are found

The Baud rate setting must be set to the same value
for all devices connected to one line. However, the
COM port/interface might differ from one interface/
gauge to another.

Starting a GPU Site Scan
1. In the Site Explorer window, right-click the site icon, and

then click Site Scan.
The Site Scan window appears.

2. Click Scan.
It might approximately take about 10 minutes to
complete the scan. All the computer’s COM ports, field
connectors, and gauges are detected and displayed in the
Site Scan window.
3. After the scan is complete, a status message appears.

Click OK, and then close the Site Scan window.
The Site Explorer displays all the devices that are
connected to the computer.

3.3 HART Site Scan
The HART Site Scan searches for 990 Gauges connected

with a HCI-HAO board through a HART Modem.
To start a HART Site Scan
Attention
If the GPU scan has detected COM ports, then skip to
step four.
We recommend you to use a VIATOR RS232 HART
Modem instead of USB HART Modem
ight-click the site, select Add Device, and then

Fixed protocol settings • True will automatically set the default settings (parity,
ata bits, stop bits) for each different protocol
• False to set the same setting for all protocols

Baud Rate • Number of symbols transferred per second
Time Out • Time to receive an answer after sending a

request message
Turn Around Delay • Waiting time to send the next message to a device
Retries • Number of attempts to send a message after a

time out

2. Select the COM port from the Name/Port list.

e recommend that you do not change any of the

default settings.
3. Click OK.
4. In the Site Explorer, right-click the COM port
icon, select Add Field Connector, and then click
HART Modem.
The HART Modem Name window appears.

5. In the Name box, type the HART Modem name, and
then click OK.
The HART Modem icon is added to the site tree in the

Site Explorer.
6. In the Site Explorer, right-click the HART Modem
icon, and then click Start HART Site Scan.

A dialog box is displayed where you can enter address

range for the Hart devices.
7. E
nter the HART start and the end address. If you do
not know the start and the end address, leave them at
their default values.
8. Click OK to start the scan.
The scanning of Hart devices begins and the status of the
scanning is displayed on the lower right of the window.
After the scan is complete all the HART devices are

Engauge can only be used as HART Primary Master.
Engauge does not support HART Secondary Master
behavior.
Engauge ignores non Honeywell Enraf HART devices
that are connected to the computer.

OneWireless Site Scan
OneWireless Site Scan searches for 990 Gauges connected

with a HCI-1WL board through a Honeywell Multinode.
To start a OneWireless Site Scan
1. Right-click the site, select Add Device, and then

choose UDP.
The Ethernet Port window appears.
2. In the Gateway IP Address box, type the Multinode or

the Gateway IP Address.
3. Click OK.
4. In the Site Explorer, right-click the Ethernet (UDP) port icon,

and then click Start OneWireless Site Scan.

The OneWireless Site Scan window appears.
5. Enter the address range. If you do not know the address

of the 990 HCI-1WL devices, leave them at their
default values.

The Emulation Range includes the CIU address range (0-9)

in order to extend the standard range.
Field Name Description
Enable Standard Range • True to run scans on Guage ranges (values between
0 and 99)
Enable CIU Emulation Range • True to run scans on CIU ranges (values between
0 and 999)
• If both selectors are set to false, the scan won’t have
any effect
6. Click OK to start the scan.
The scanning of FlexLine Gauges connected to the

OneWireless begins and the status is displayed on the
lower right of the window
After the scan is complete all the 990 HCI-1WL devices are

4.1
Adding a Device
You can add a device that uses UDP (User Datagram

Protocol) or COM ports.
To add a device
1. Right-click the site, select Add Device, and then choose

UDP or COM.
Attention
lternatively, you can choose File > New > Add Device >

The device is added to the site and is displayed in the Site
Explorer.
4. In the right panel, click Apply to save the changes.

Saving a Device
In Engauge 2.6, the devices are saved automatically as

soon as you add a new device or make any changes to
the device.

Deleting a Device
You can delete a device from the site at any given point
(provided the device does not have other elements
associated to it.) To delete a device, right-click the device,
and then click Delete. In the confirmation window,
click Yes.

Adding a Field Connector
1. Right-click the COM port, select Add Field Connector,

and then choose the connector that you want to add.
2. In the Name box, type the name for the field connector.
In the Right Pane, the properties of the field connector

displays.
3. In the Field Connector area make the necessary

changes, and then click Apply.

Adding a Tank
1. Right-click the field connector and then click Add Tank.
2. In the Name box, type the name of the tank, and then
click OK.


chapter 5 Commissioning a Gauge
5.1
Commissioning a GPU Gauge
Before a GPU gauge like an 854 Servo gauge, 87x, and 97x
Radar gauge is commissioned, they have to be verified first.
Verifying the GPU Gauge
1. In the Site Explorer, select the gauge that you want
to verify.
2. In the right pane, click the Gauge Properties tab.
3. Click Verify.
If the gauge is online, a green tick that says Is verified

appears in the right pane.
After the gauge is verified, it can be commissioned.

Commissioning A Gauge
To commission the GPU gauge
1. In the Site Explorer, right-click the gauge select

Commissioning, and then click Item Settings.
The Item Settings are grouped into various tabs.


2. Make the necessary changes and do one of

the following:
Send: Click Send to send the new setting to
the gauge.
Read: Click Read to read all the settings from
the gauge
Activate: Click Activate to put the gauge
back online.
5.2
Commissioning a FlexConn Device
For a FlexConn gauge, the commissioning items are not on

the gauge level but on the FlexConn board level, e.g. each
FlexConn board has its own set of items (Entities).
To identify which FlexConn boards are present in

the gauge
1. In the Site Explorer, right-click the FlexConn device,

and then click FlexConn Configuration.

The FlexConn Configuration Panel appears.
2. Right-click the FlexConn device, and select Scan

FlexConn Boards.
The detected FlexConn boards are displayed in the

site explorer.
To commission a FlexConn Device
1. In the FlexConn Configuration Panel, right-click the

FlexConn device, and then click Get All Data.


All commissioning entities from all the connected FlexConn

boards are read. This may take some time.
2. In the FlexConn Configuration Panel, right-click the

FlexConn board, and then click Commissioning.
The entity settings are grouped into various tabs.
3. Make the necessary changes and do one of

the following:
Send: Click Send to send the new setting to
the device.
Read: Click Read to read from the device.
Command: Click Command to send a command
to the device.

Creating Diagram
Using Engauge 2.6, you can create the following diagrams:

Differential Spectrum Diagram
Differential Spectrum Diagram (High Resolution)
Heimdall Diagram
Raw Data Diagram
Reflection Diagram
Reflection Diagram (High Resolution)
Procedure to create these diagrams are the same. Hence,

in this document we will demonstrate how to create
Reflection Diagram.
To create a reflection diagram


1. In the Site Explorer, right-click the 990 icon, select

Diagram Viewer.
2. Click Reflection Diagram.
3. Click Read to retain the diagram from the 990 gauge.

The following diagram appears.


chapter 6 Uninstalling Engauge
To uninstall Engauge, you have to first close all open

windows, including the Engauge application.
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall

a Program.
2. Select Honeywell Enraf Engauge 2.6, and then click

Uninstall.
Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall Engauge.

chapter 7 Converting Engauge 2.5 Site to
Engauge 2.6 Compatible Site
7.1 About Database Converter
Engauge 2.6 includes a database converter that helps

you convert any existing Engauge 2.5 related site to the
Engauge 2.6 compatible site with the new data structure.
If you are having Engauge 2.4 related sites, you need to
first convert it into Engauge 2.5 compatible site, and then
use the Engauge 2.6 database converter.
How does it work?

The database converter performs the following steps to
convert the old site to the new site:
1. R
etrieves site elements and its settings, and graphics
from the old database
2. Creates a new database
3. C
opies the retrieved files and settings to the
new database
4. Updates diagrams and gauge data XML files
Converting the Site with Database Converter
Attention
Install Engauge 2.6 before following the instructions
given below.

Configuration > Engauge 2.6 Database Converter.
The Engauge 2.6 Database Converter dialog
box appears.

Converting Engauge 2.5 Site
To Engauge 2.6 Compatible Site
2. Next to the Source Database box, click Browse, and

select the 2.5 site database.
The site database is located in following folder:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Honeywell\SiteDatabase\
[name_of_site]\[name_of_site.mdb].
3. In the Destination Name box, type a new name for

the new site, and then click Convert.
The processing time varies depending on the size of

the site. After the conversion is complete, the status
message appears.


Converting Engauge 2.5 Site
To Engauge 2.6 Compatible Site
4. Click OK.
The conversion log is saved in the same location where

the new site database is saved.
5. Close the Database Converter dialog box.
You can open Engauge 2.6 and use the new site.
