UNIT – I
1. a) Discuss the environmental aspects of energy utilization. 8
b) Draw a schematic general layout of modern thermal power plant and discuss the 8
function of each component and operation of plant.
c) Draw a neat sketch of Rankine cycle for steam power plant. Label the parts and 8
describe the working of each component, giving formula for energy exchange for the
same.
UNIT – II
2. a) What is the principle of solar photovoltaic power generation. What are the main 8
component's of a PV system.
b) Describe construction of solar photovoltaic module and solar PV Panel. 8
c) Explain about the application of solar PV system in rural areas. 8
UNIT – III
3. a) What are the main component's of flat plate solar collector. With a neat sketch 8
explain the functions of each component.
b) What are the various types of concentrating collectors? What are the advantages 8
and limitations of concentrating collectors.
c) What is solar pond's. Describe non-convective solar pond and it's principle of 8
operation.
UNIT – IV
4. a) Explain the basic principle of wind energy conversion. 8
b) Describe the main consideration in selecting a site for wind generators. 8
c) Explain pressurized water reactor with neat schematic diagram. Write down 8
advantages and dis-advantages of it.
UNIT – V
5. a) How are biogas plant's classified. Explain any two of them briefly. 8
b) Explain the principle of ocean thermal energy conversion system. 8
c) Explain various factors affecting the generation of bio-gas. 8
