About The Workshop

This pair of workshops will provide an overview of attachment disorder and its relationship to trauma
and shame. Predominant patterns seen in children with attachment difficulties will be described. The
second session will lay out the overall philosophy of parenting children with attachment difficulties and
detail a range of specific parenting tools, many of which are somewhat counterintuitive as compared
with conventional parenting. This session is highly integrated with the first, so attending both is highly
recommended.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is thinking of or in the process of adopting a child from the foster care system; anyone who
works with children with attatchment issues; or anyone who is currently parenting a child with a
history of attachment issues.

About The Presenter

Dr. Lawrence B. Smith, LCSW-C, LICSW has 27 years of experience working with children, adolescents,
and their families; and the majority of that experience has been with children with severe emotional
and behavioral difficulties. Since 1993, Dr. Smith has specialized in working with children with
Attachment Disorders. He has written multiple training outlines for understanding and working with
these children. These outlines are being used by a variety of organizations for training purposes, both
with parents and professionals, nationally and internationally. In addition, these handouts have been
posted on many websites in this country and internationally. Dr. Smith has been giving workshops to
clinicians and parents on Attachment Disorder since 1997. In 2001, he co-founded the website,
AttachmentDisorderMaryland.com, which serves as both an international information clearinghouse and
a Mid-Atlantic regional resources clearinghouse on attachment disorder.

For professionals – 4 CEU’s will be offered for attendance at both sessions of this 2 part series. A fee of
$25 will be charged for CEU certificates.
