Live load impact = 0%
Top slab thickness = 350 mm
Clear span of slab = 4000 mm
Inner wall thickness = 200 mm

CROSS SECTION OF BOX CULVERT

1. Dead Loads

i. Selfweight:
Included in the SAP analysis.

ii. Super Imposed Dead Loads (SIDL)

Fill above the culvert top = 19.00 KN/m2
Ashphalt load 50mm thick = 1.20 KN/m2
Total Super Imposed Dead Load (SIDL) = 20.2 KN/m2
2. Live load distribution through fill

According to this clause of AASHTO, where the depth of fill above

top of slab exceeds 600 mm, the loads may be considered to be
uniformely distributed over a rectangular area with sides equal to
the dimension of the tire contact area increased by the depth of fill

Stress overlapping will occur when H > 0.60 m

Distribution length along the traffic = 1.75H + 0.3 m
Uniform load over top slab = 4P(1+Impact)/Area Kn/m2
Total width of culvert 8.7 m
Distribution length perpendicular to traffic = 7.25 m
Distribution length along the traffic = 2.05 m
Area for the distribution loads = 14.86 m2
Uniform load over top slab = 43.1 Kn/m2

3. Earth Pressure loads

The earth pressure co-efficient for the back-fill material is determined as 0.5
Live load surcharge will be taken as 2 feet of soil
gsoil = 19 Kn/m3
ka = 0.500
Height of wall H (center to center) = 3850 mm
The Earth pressure at the center of top slab = 11.2 KN/m2
The Earth pressure at the center of bott. slab = 47.7 KN/m2
The Earth pressure due surcharge = 5.8 KN/m2
The Earth pressure top 17.0
The Earth pressure bott 53.5
