SITE JUSTIFICATION

LOCATION
The site is located in the Manamai, Mahabalipuram. Considering the rich heritage value of Mahabalipuram and the future proposals over
there by the government by 2023, the culture park design is ideal at Mahabalipuram.

ACCESS
The site can be accessed through the Thirukkalukkundram road.
Since the site has its main access through the thirukkalukkundram road, which diverges from the East coast road abutting the site,
which has more vehicular flow, privacy to the site is ensured.
The site has the potential to attract visitors from Chennai, pudhucherry, cuddalore and kancheepuram in addition to the foreign tourists
who visit Mahabalipuram.
Airport : Anna International Terminal Airport, Chennai (48 kms)
Railway station : Chengalpattu junction (24 kms)
Bus station : Mahabalipuram bus station (1.4kms)

LANDUSE
This (meykkal poromboke) site comes under the Mahabalipuram local development authority. There is a government proposal miniature
Tamilnadu of project of similar kind, at this site.

SITE SURROUNDINGS
The site is located just few kms away from the group of heritage monuments of Mahabalipuram which might serve the purpose of
heritage walk from the site also enriches the location value.
The site has pretty calm environment other than the few resorts around the site.
The Mahabalipuram backwaters runs abutting the site which increases the quality of view from the site.

TOPOGRAPHY
The site has contours varying from -3 m level to +2 m level. The backwaters near the site might serve as a natural drain.
The water table is generally high in the lowest point due to the presence of water body.
The porous sand spreaded all through the site serves self- percolation (rainwater).

VEGETATION
The green patches all through the site along with the trees and shrubs that are already on the site creates a pleasant mood also acts as a
buffer space and enriches the value of the site.

SITE FEATURES

The backwaters near the site might serve as a natural drain also can enhance the views from the site there by creating a calm environment
around.
The site has many beautiful resorts like Radisson blu resort, confluential resort, etc., which can serve accommodation for the tourists.
The site has many archaic places like the shore temple, pancha rathas, sthala syana perumal temple, etc., which has rich heritage quality
adds enriched value to the site.
Thus the site is ideal under various aspects like location, access, site surroundings, etc., for this ethnic design for bringing back the
glimpse of the rich Tamil culture to the present generation.

CONCLUSION
Thus with these many positive aspects the site at Manamai, Mahabalipuram is found to be ideal for my design proposal, Tamil Thadam
(The Culture Park).
