The Strathmore RCMP received a description of the
suspects vehicle and launched a search. The descrip-
tion raised red flags at the Gleichen RCMP where peo-
ple matching the description had been involved in
stealing liquor in Cluny, fleeing in a grey GMC Acadia.
With the additional information, Strathmore RCMP

the last robbery heading eastbound on Highway 1.

Police attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver
refused to stop which initiated a pursuit.
After the deployment of a tire deflation device, the
suspect drove the vehicle into a field where the indi-

After weeks of struggling to fill the bare
shelves and with only a few days left be-
fore the Strathmore and Wheatland Coun-
ty Christmas Hamper Society reached their
cutoff point, a compassionate act by the
Roadhouse Restaurant and Lounge staff al-
lowed the organization to reach their tar-

This year, the 51-member-strong staff
at the local establishment unanimously
decided to forego a gift exchange at their
Christmas party and instead bring items to
fill the shelves at the society.
While the Strathmore and Wheatland
County Christmas Hamper Society esti-
mated a nosedive in donations by 30 per
cent relative to last year, the society has

store drove home on Highway 22X three days
after opening the doors to Tasty Candy Soda & Ice
Cream, he was overcome with emotion.
Maybe it was the exhaustion from putting in 20-
hour days, or possibly the many weeks of tack-
ling small roadblocks, or just maybe it was the
response he received from the Strathmore com-

suggest a promising future for the coveted enter-

Canucks looking for wins and attendance in Strathmore

TYLER LOWEY
Times Reporter

If the Calgary Canucks are to sched-

ule any more games in Strathmore,
they might want to avoid two of the
Alberta Junior Hockey Leagues elite
programs.
Granted, they are two of the closer
franchises to Strathmore, but the Ca-
nucks picked up their second loss this
season in Strathmore when the jugger-
naut Brooks Bandits blanked the host
team 3-0 Dec. 8 at the Strathmore Fam-
ily Centre.
This marked the second of a possible
four games for the Canucks in Strath-
more this season. Back on Nov. 19, the
Okotoks Oilers skated to a 2-1 victory
over the Canucks at the Family Centre.
Unfortunately for the Canucks, two
of the closest AJHL teams to Strath-
more occupy the top two seeds in the
Viterra South Division. The third seed
is also nearby, in the Drumheller Drag-
ons.
The proximity of those franchises

The Strathmore Wheatland Kings held their annual food drive during their game against the Three Hills Thrashers Dec. 10 at the Strathmore Family Centre. Donations were collected in a van provided by
Strathmore Ford and delivered to the Wheatland County Food Bank after the game. More than 40 toys were delivered to the Hope Covenant Community Church and 225 pounds of food was dropped off to
the Wheatland County Food Bank. It was estimated the amount of food donated was enough to feed a family of four for a week and a half. Karla Hammond (right photo, l-r), Shelly Stewart, Karissa Hammond,
