15 November 2017
Today, November 15th, 2017, my business and society class attended three different
presentations. The first presentation was presented by Ms. Hilary Cahill, who is the Vice
President of marketing at Cayman Enterprise City. CEC is a special economic zone and offshore
business hub. So far, they have about 220 companies working through them and set up in Grand
Cayman. Ms. Cahills presentation went over the main duties of CEC, all of their economic
zones, their plans for their future location, and went over the jobs that they will be offering in the
near future. One of my favourite things learned from this presentation was about all of the
interesting jobs that they will be offering in the near future. Many of the jobs that they will be
offering are not offered anywhere else on island, or they are hard to find, so I think that this will
bring great opportunities. This presentation related to business and society because it explained
how her business runs on the interests, productivity, talents, and innovations of society. CEC is
going to be one of the only businesses of their kind on the island, so it is very important that they
understand how society affects them to ensure a thriving business. Ms. Cahill told us that all of
the companies of CEC are either knowledge or technology based. As stated in the text, Every
aspect of business is influenced by technology the distribution and sale of products; how
businesses are created, formed, and sustained; the business-employee relationship, whether
human or mechanical employees, and other business elements (Lawrence & Weber, 2017, p.
246-247).
The second presentation was presented by Ms. Glenda McTaggart, who is the learning
and development manager at Dart Enterprises Ltd. Her presentation went over the objectives,
goals, and tasks of Dart Enterprises Ltd. and explained how they intertwine the community and
businesses into what they do. Some of the services that they offer include management and
business direction, finance, human resources, audit and risk management, information

technology, marketing and community development. One of the most interesting facts I learned
during this presentation is that Dart Enterprises Ltd. Is one of the only companies on island that
does everything in house. This presentation related to business and society because Dart
Enterprises Ltd. is constantly involved in the community and they stay updated with the concerns
of society to provide them with what they want. Ms. McTaggarts presentations also explained
how Dart Enterprises is a very diverse because their employees are from all over the world and
are all different ages. Diversity, as defined by the text, refers to variation in the important
human characteristics that distinguish people from one another and the primary dimensions of
diversity are age, ethnicity, gender, mental or physical abilities, race, and sexual orientation
The third presentation was presented by Ms. Abby Hydes, who is a marketing assistant at
Tower Marketing. Tower Marketing is a communications agency who started business 18 years
ago on island. They only have 11 staff members, so strategy and communication is a huge part of
their every day tasks. Corporate social responsibility is very important to Tower Marketing and
they try to incorporate this into everything they do. We learned about corporate social
responsibility in chapter 3 of the text. It means that a corporation should act in a way that
enhances society and its inhabitants and be held accountable for any of its actions that affect
people, their communities, and their environment (Lawrence & Weber, 2017, p. 48). This
presentation relates to business and society because she explained how important it is to keep up
with the wants and needs of their clients in order to provide them with the best products and
