Last-Minute Grammar Guide (PRONOUNS)

These are three sample modules, moulded to meet the requirement of the level of
students, namely the low, average and high achievers.

Teachers need to produce ample worksheets to boost students' writing skills.

I once published this exercise. The following is a sample answer for the guided
composition Book Fair.

1. This sample answer is written in plain Past Tense, meant as a guide for average
pupils.

2. Most sentences are short simple sentences to avoid numerous occurrence of


grammatical errors.

3. It does not have any similes, collective nouns or idioms.

4. It has simple linkers such as Finally and Later.

5. When teaching, ensure the correct use of There was.. There were

6. Also make sure that adjectives are preceded with verb-to-be : was or were.
7. Notice the common Past Tense verbs used :
a. went to
b. wanted to (verb)
c. walked
d. stopped
e. asked for
f. bought
g. hoped

Last Saturday, Amin and his family went to a book fair. He wanted to buy some story
books.
At the book fair, there were many people. It was crowded. There were many book
booths. Amin and his family walked from one booth to another booth.
Finally they stopped at a booth. There were various kinds of books. There, Amin
chose his favourite books.
Coincidentally, there was a book author. Amin asked for his signature. Later, his
father paid for the books at the cash counter.
Before they left the book fair, Amin's father bought a balloon for Amin's sister. All of
them were very excited. They hoped to visit a book fair again in future.

need ideas to write the first few lines in their message or letter. (Ref : UPSR | 014

This is an example of a comprehensive exercise which demands students' ability to identify


the most common errors in essay writing. (The errors have been mentioned in earlier posts)
and then correct them and once done, rewrite the story using the corrected words and phrases.


Last Sunday, Amin and his mother were went to go to the shopping mall. They were arrived
at there early morning. Have many people at there.
Amins mother was wanted to buy some grocery items so she went to go to the grocery
department. At the grocery department, had many shelves. Had various kinds of grocery
items at there. Had also a lady worker. She was helped Amin.s mother to pack the grocery
items. Amins mother said thank to her.
Later, Amin and his mother went to go to the cash counter. She was brought the grocery
items to there. At there, she was gave the items to the cashier. The cashier was packed the
items. Then, Amins mother was paid the money and the cashier says thanked you to her
customer.
Later, they were went home. Amin was helped to carry the items. His mother says thanked to
him fot being so helpful. Amin was just smiled.
That evening, Amin and his father went to go to the park. They wanted to exercise at there.
Amin was excited. At the park, they were jogged. Had so many people jogging there.
After half an hour jogging, they were tired.They wanted to go home. Amins father says
thank to him for coming together to the park. Amin was felt proud of himself. He said thank
you to his father too.
At night, Amin and his brother were in the room. At there, they were studied their lessons.
Both of them were wanted to get good grades. A few minutes later, Amins brother went to
go to the kitchen. At there, he was had a drink. He was drank some lemonade because he was
thirsty.
Then he went to go back to his room. He was brought along a glass of milk for his brother.
Amin says thanked to him.
