HOMELESS SHELTER
KUALA LUMPUR
About the Pusat Transit Gelandangan Kuala Lumpur:

Built in: July 2014

Inaugurated: 27th February 2016 (by Dato Seri Mohd Najib Bin Abdul Razak)

Government: Kementerian Wilayah Persekutuan support by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur

(DBKL)

Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB).

Address: Pusat Transit Gelandangan,

Lot 650, Jalan Pahang,
50586 Kuala Lumpur.
KEY PLAN:
If you go to the Kuala Lumpur, this is what you can see in the evening. Due to the demise of
life, these groups have no choice but to sleep in pavement areas, squares and other public
areas. They are just enough to be able to take a nap for a while.
Consequently, an initiative was made by the Federal Territories Ministry (KWP) in collaboration with MRCB in
providing a center called the Pusat Transit Gelandangan Kuala Lumpur (PTGKL). The center is also a directive from
YAB Prime Minister, Dato 'Seri Najib Razak himself when he made a survey on the homeless. The building was
established in CSR and throughout the planning and establishment of the center, the KWP also involved discussions
with the Ministry and other government agencies including agencies under the KWP namely DBKL, and involved
NGOs working closely with KWP in addressing the issue of homelessness. The center can also be considered one
stop center for homeless which can accommodate 250 homeless people. Building concepts and features are a
combination of ideas from various quarters including KWP as the project owner, Malaysian Resources Corporation
Berhad (MRCB) as the project developer, other agencies as stakeholders and NGOs who are more familiar with the
homeless and their needs .
PTGKL is equipped with a variety of facilities including a Red Crescent Clinic provided to treat
emergency cases experienced by the residents. However, the clinic only provides initial
treatment only and the residents will be taken to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for further
treatment if their illness is not healed. Furthermore, the center is very close to the hospital.
PTGKL also divides into 2 levels to isolate male and female homeless. Each floor has male / female
surau and bathroom / toilet facilities.
Here is also a large and large dining hall and can accommodate about 100 people at a time
But for your information, the concept of this dining hall is not like a Anjung Singgah. They have no chef
and daily fixed menu. They at PTGKL only expect donations from people or NGOs who come to feed.
Even washing rooms equipped with modern washing machines are also available here to keep the
homeless always in clean and comfortable clothes.
At the same time, it also have free clothes donated by the public and non-governmental organizations
(NGO). So for those who want to donate or any kind of contribution, you are welcome to visit here.
In addition, the RELA has been entrusted to look after the area and control the homeless within the
PTGKL area. This is because everyone are allowed to stay there. So with the RELA, they can look after
and ensure everything is in a state of safety and security.
