Plan Earth-Sun Relationship
2. Learning Target(s): (What will students know & be able to do as a result of this lesson?)
o Students will know what the noon Sun angles are and how to calculate it.
o Determine the amount of solar radiation that hits the Earth every season.
o Learn what causes seasons to occur on the Earth.
o Determine the percentages of solar radiation from the different latitudes.
o Know what Analemma is and how to use it to determine the latitude of the noon Sun.
o To be able to use noon Sun angles to determine latitude.
3. Relevance/Rationale: (Why are the outcomes of this lesson important in tlte real wortat How
will it benefit students to know this topic?)
o This lesson is important for students to know the mechanisms into why seasons occur.
o lt also applies the knowledge they gained from doing latitude and longitude work.
o To learn the different parallel of latitudes and their relationship to the different seasons.
4. Formative Assessment Criteria for success: (How will you & your students know if they have
successfully met the outcomes? By what criteria will they be assessed?)
o They'll be assessed by doing lab work on globes or atlas maps.
6. Resources/Materials: (What texts, digital resources, & Materials will be ,t"d ,'" tt'ir l"so.?)
o Lab Book
o Metric ruler
o Protractor
o Globe or world map
o Colored pencils
o Calculator
o Large rubber band or string
