Accommodations
Students that struggled with working in a group were allowed to work individually on
specific assignments. If Specified in the Student's IEP, I set up the Chapter 24 test to be
read aloud to them. If they chose to not have the test read aloud to them I noted that in
Powerschool grades.

modifications
If needed I could assign to the student a separate pack of reading notes with less
questions from each section of chapter 24.

Pre Assessment
Students will work on the Geography Alive! Chapter 24 Learning Scale to assess what
they know and what they are going to learn. The scale ranges from 0-4. Each students
goal is to be at a level 3. A level 4 is considered above and beyond and requires
additional work to be done on the students own time.
Post Assessment
Chapter 24 Test

Reflection:
For the most part I think the unit went really well. This specific unit has some really good
group activities that allow the students to get out of their seats and move around. Although the
test results were not quite what I would have liked to see they were not far from the 80 percent
I was shooting for. I attribute the test scores to two things: I could have done a better job of
teaching the material, and a potentially poor question or the students lack of ability to find and
evaluate information. I take it very personal when it comes to test scores and it is my job to do
the best I can so that the class average can reach 80 percent. I can use this data to go back and
improve the unit and how I teach it. I believe the other reason for the low test scores is a
combination of a potentially poor question as well the students ability to seek out and find
information without someone there to walk them through it. When we went over the test,
after that specific question I thought was poor, I asked the class how many of them got the
question wrong. I then asked how many of you feel like you made a silly mistake? In each class
about half raised their hand. What this short formative assessment tells me is that the question
is either poorly written or many of the students lack the skills to answer the question? The
number of students that got the question right, makes me lean more towards the students
ability to find information and evaluate it. Whatever the reason may be, I think that the test
could be improved slightly.
