History of the Profession


1908 the Wright brothers made a contract to make a single aircraft for the United States Army. During
the 1930s the Boeing 237 marked the start of the American aircraft dominance. The Bell X1 was the first
plane to break the sound barrier. This was the first of the X series of experimental planes which broke
speed and altitude records. The Space Race was during the time of the Cold War. January 28, 1985 the
Shuttle Challenger exploded killing the seven members on board.
