Lesson Plan in English II

I. Learning Outcomes

III. Learning Experiences:
A. Preliminary Activity
Opening prayer will be led by a student from the class. Attendance-
checking, proper uniform checking, and clean area checking will be
observed.

B. Motivation
The class will be grouped by four. Each group will be assigned a color
(blue, green, yellow, pink, white, purple, red, orange) and must choose
eight representatives to be blind folded. The representatives will reach
the color-codes containing letters of any parts of speech mounted on the
walls of the classroom while they will be blind folded.

The other group members will give directions to their


representatives in order to keep them in track to their color-codes.
Before beginning the activity, the teacher will give rules.

Rules:
1. The representatives of each group must not touch nor bump each
other.
2. The group members must stay in their place. No touching the
representatives.
3. No squealing. No foul words.
4. The representatives are not allowed to talk or ask.
5. Only the representatives will get the color-codes. Group members will
only guide.

After collecting their color-codes, they will assemble the color-codes


to form the words. The first group that will finish the task will win 3
points for the quiz.

C. Presentation
The class will be asked to express their realization during the activity.
How did the winners achieve the task?
Then the groups will state the part of speech they have in their color-
codes.

D. Discussion
The teacher will briefly discuss the parts of speech with examples
that will be given. Possible examples are:
a) Noun
i. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
ii. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
b) Verb
i. Jesus wept.
ii. Martha is cumbering to serve Jesus as Mary is sitting at His feet.
c) Pronoun
i. Jesus gave himself to pay my debt I can never pay.
ii. God said, let us make man in our own image.
d) Adverb
i. Praying is talking to God.
ii. Reading the Bible is listening to Him.
iii. They quickly went to the tomb and found no body in it.
e) Adjectives
i. No greater sacrifice when He gave His very life.
ii. He was buried like a beggar in a borrowed tomb.
f) Interjection
i. Oh, let me not wander from thy commandments!
ii. Alas! Did my Savior bleed?
g) Conjunction
i. It was everything for nothing as it seemed but death could never
stand against His nail-scarred hands.
ii. We have this fragile flesh and blood.
h) Preposition
i. Theres a coin in the fish in the net in the hands of the men in
the boat at the sea of Galilee.
ii. Your broken form upon the cross, Your holy love expressed.

E. Application
The class will stay in the same groupings. Each group will be
provided a 1/8 illustration board wherein they will write their answers
and raise them. The teacher will state example sentences and make the
class identify a part of speech in the sentences given. The class must
listen carefully to easily do the task. They will encounter 10 sentences,
and the group that gains the most points will have additional 5 points for
the assessment.

The ten sentences will be:


i) There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine
linen, and fared sumptuously everyday. (What is the adverb in
the sentence?)
i. Answer: sumptuously
j) There was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his
gate, full of sores. (What are the nouns in the sentence?)
i. Answers: beggar, Lazarus, gate, sores
k) He was desiring to be fed with the crumbs, which fell from the
rich mans table. (What are the verbs in the sentence?)
i. Answers: desiring, fed, fell
l) Oh Im, hungry.. Will anybody give me food? Please spare me
some food! (What is the interjection in the sentence?)
i. Answer: Oh
m) Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. It came to pass,
the beggar died. (What are the verbs in the sentence?)
i. Answers: came, licked, pass, died
n) He was carried by the angels into Abrahams bossom. (What are
the nouns in the sentence?)
i. Answers: angels, Abraham, bossom
o) The rich man died and he was buried. (What are the verbs in the
sentence?)
i. Answers: died, buried
p) The people wailed. Friends and loved ones cried and mourned at
his body. (What are the verbs in the sentence?)

q) In hell, he lifted up his eyes, being in torments. (What are the
nouns in the sentence?)

r) Why am I here? Im good, Im faithful to my church, Im humble.
This is not my place. I am not supposed to be here. Oh its hot!

F. Assessment
The class will be given a 10-item multiple choice type of test. This is
an individual assessment. They will prepare three intermediate papers
written with A,B and C. They will raise their letter answer when the
teacher finishes dictating the question. They will count the number of
their right answers. Points will be recorded as scores for their quiz.

The class will listen to an audio book read by Daniel Shortland entitled

that will be provided by writing the words that fit every category from the
audio book listened.
