Final Reflections:

Throughout this final project I truly began to understand what Richard Louv was talking about in free
play when he described creativity cannot exist without action. The first few weeks of the semester I had
these grandiose ideas of what my paintings would be, but never started them for fear of mistakes and
fear of failure. Once I began drafting up ideas for this project though, I found myself 2hours into a
painting completely unrelated to the final project. The point is, through this project I found the
inspiration to paint again. Edward Abbey, like Richard Louv, describes this as sentiment without action
is the ruin of the soul.

Things I learned about other classmates: Overall, were a pretty diverse, artistic group, with the same
underlying passions for recreation and the environment.

Smaller observations:

Lydia appreciates the small moments, being in the now, and will probably end up working in Alaska, as
will Drew. Through Drews installation my opinions on hunting changed a bit. I say a bit because I still
dont think hunting is practical with our growing population, but Id like to believe in a life where we all
could simply forage and hunt for food, while using all parts of the animal. Man, can Megan wood burn!
Talking with Kelly about her process with paper art and the time it took her was inspiring, she is very
patient. Dan thrives off of social interactions, you can tell just by his project. He wanted to incorporate
people doing what they loved into his own project.

This class has been an eye opener to the humanities through the ages. Having each group of students
bring us back to the time period they were assigned helped me relate better with the activities.
