INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES (s) (Lesson Objective(s)*)


Before a brief lesson on verbs, students will be asked to list their hobbies on a worksheet
provided to them. Students will then be engaged in a lesson on verbs. After the lesson on verbs,
students will be given index cards where they will use one index card per word in the sentence.
Students will then swap index cards and will be asked to rearrange the index cards to form a
sentence where they will need to identify the verbs in each sentence.

MOTIVATION (Engaging the learner(s)*)


Students will be asked to list their favorite hobbies. (What are some of your favorite hobbies?
What types of things do you like to do during your free time?)

DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES
1. Instruction: Students will talk about hobbies and what their favorite hobbies are. (What are
your favorite hobbies? What do you like to do during your free time at home? What do you like
to do during free time in school?)
2. Modeling: Students will have the teachers model on the board what is asked of them when
listing hobbies.
3. Paired work: Students will make their index cards and share them with their classmates to
have rearranged.
4. Independent Practice: For homework, students will be given a worksheet with sentences
written and they will be asked to circle all the verbs and underline all of the nouns. Students will
also be asked to create their own sentences.

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES (Learning Strategies*)


Guided Lesson
Students will be shown how they are expected to list their hobbies.
Graphic Organizers
Students will have graphic organizers to separate school hobbies and home hobbies.

ADAPTATIONS (Exceptionality*)
--ELL students will have visual cue cards to help them create their index cards.

DIFFERENTIATION OF INSTRUCTION
Struggling Students
Students who are struggling will have a list of possible hobbies for students their age and they
will choose from a list of hobbies to list theirs. Students will also be given sample sentences to
use for their index cards.

Average Students
Students who are average will not have a list of sample sentences to use for their index cards but
will receive a list of possible hobbies.

Advanced Students
Students who are advanced will not be given a list of hobbies or sample sentences but will be
challenged to create a sentence using all 10 index cards and at least two verbs.

ASSESSMENT (artifacts* and assessment [formal & informal]*)


Formal: Students will be graded based on how well they rearrange the index cards.
Informal: Students will be graded informally on their list of hobbies.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Students will complete the verbs worksheet for homework. Students will be asked to circle the
verbs in the sentences and underline the nouns. Students will also be asked to create two of their
own sentences.

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES: DIRECT TEACHER INTERVENTION AND

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Direct Teacher Intervention: The students who did not complete the assignment or had trouble
with the assignment will be asked to come to an extra help session where they will watch a video
on verbs to help them better understand how to identify verbs.

Academic Enrichment: The students who had an easier time with this assignment will be given
the chance to receive extra credit assignment where they will keep a journal of what activities
they do on a daily basis to keep a log of verbs.
