Not all Poor Clares who left writings are included here.
The list of the many Clares writing today is not complete.
Many Servants of God have been omitted due to scant information available.
Many resource books, either old, in foreign languages, have been omitted.
Names are left in the language geven in their source.
Some women who lived within a Poor Clare monastery may not have made profession.
The initials used to cite the various branches of the Order to which these women
belonged are omitted where there is uncertainty
These lists are a selection from the more extensive contents of a research project in
progress. May these entries inspire qualified scholars to search more deeply into the story of
the women who followed Sts. Francis and Clare of Assisi beyond 800 years. And may this
research bring to light the impact of St. Clare on her times, and its continuing contribution to
the Church and to the world in our day.

Branches of Poor ClaresIncluded in thisAnthology_
O.S.C. ... Order of St. Clare. This title was given by Pope Urban IV, to those following the Rule
he promulgated, known as the Urbanist Rule of St. Clare. It continued to be used by those
who chose to return to the original First Rule of Saint Clare. This took place in 1950.
Those within the jurisdiction of the Friars of the Observant Reform in Italy in the 15th
century were nown as the Order of St. Clare of the Strict Observance.
P.C.C.... Poor Clare Colettines. These Poor Clares live the First Rule of St. Clare according to the
particular charism of St. Colette of Corbie who initiated a reform of the Order in France
in the 15th century. They became known as Poor Clare Colettines because they were
under the jurisdiction of the Colettine Friars reformed by St. Colette.
O.S.C. Cap.... Poor Clare Capuchins. Mother Maria Laurenza Luongo led a reform of the
Order in the 16th. century. At first they used the Constitutions of St. Colette
supplemented with statutes from the Capuchin Friars' Constitutions. In 1927 particular
Constitutions were drawn up for these Capuchin Poor Clares, within the jurisdiction of
the Capuchin Friars.
P.C.P.A.... Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, or Sacramentine Poor Clares, or, Poor Clares of
the Most Blessed Sacrament. Founded in 1854 in Troyes, France, by Bonaventure
Heurlaut, O.F.M.Cap. and Mother Marie Claire Bouillevaux. At first they were Third
Order Regular Cloistered Nuns called Franciscan Nuns of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
In 1912 they were incorporated into the Order of St. Clare taking the Urbanist Rule of St.
Clare.
O.S.C. Divine Providence Poor Clares of the Divine Providence. Led by Mother Teresa del
Sagrado Cuore, Poor Clares in Barcelona, Spain, were requested by the Bishop to teach
