Outcome of Lesson: (Blooms or I can statement)

Hook:
Read, My Five Sense by Aliki

Learning Opportunities:

Time Learning Opportunity Connection to outcome

5min Read, My Five Sense by Aliki
2min Ask students what the five senses are, then write & draw a picture of each on the
board.
12min Go through each sense individually: see, hear, smell, touch and taste and ask what
that specific sense is and have students provide examples.
4min Five Senses Dr. Binocs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1xNuU7gaAQ (4:03)
3min Give each student a five senses card, which has a picture and word of that sense.
Explain that each student will get a card with one picture on it. Each person needs
to think of an example of what they would experience with that sense. Provide an
example such as: I have smell- fresh apple pie! Yum!
1min Hand out the cards then give students 30 seconds to think of their example.
9min Have students hand up/stand up/pair up and explain how to do that first. Then
repeat one more time, having each student try another sense.
30sec Have students do 10 jumping jacks and count along with them.
15min Explain the worksheet, Master #1. Read the small blurb for each number, and then
decide which sense it is and circle that. No more than one sense can be circled.
If students are done early, have them go to the carpet, grab a sense card and draw a
picture of something they would experience from this sense on their whiteboard.
After there are a few kids at the carpet with their whiteboards, they can share ideas
with each other.
2min
Review the worksheet with the class and the five senses again
