AltHERnative Business Proposal

AltHERnative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving women in developing countries

proper access to contraception. With this access, women worldwide will be given more
opportunity to get an education, start their own businesses, and focus on their personal health
rather than caring for children at a young age. This distributive contraceptive service has become
more difficult in the recent months due to President Donald Trump's decision to repeal the
contraceptive coverage mandate started by President Barack Obama. Due to this change in
policy, birth control prices in the United States have increased for patients, and international
planned parenthood in other countries has been defunded. 55 million women in the United States
alone no longer have access to no-co-pay contraceptives, and now women across the world are
being denied millions of dollars' worth of planned parenthood funding to support their choices as
mothers (Pear). Although the affordable care act is still in place, provisions have been made to
divert its impact upon particular issues, including birth control accessibility ("Affordable Care
Act"). As America was once one of the largest contraceptive donors to countries such as India,
altHERnative would like to help pick up the slack, and as a private organization we are capable
of doing so. Ultimately, our goal is to help control population growth in our world to provide
environmental prosperity, promote female opportunity, decrease poverty, and increase
recognition of women's rights on a global scale. The purpose of altHERnative is to improve the
quality of our world, by helping one woman at a time, and allowing her to make her own life
choices. In this proposal, we will discuss our organization, the importance of its success, our plan
of action, our key advocates, and the costs and return of investment. In making this proposal we
intend to offer our investors proper information about our company and our investment and
donation requests, and provide a in depth plan for how we will use their donations. By reading
this proposal, we hope to receive confirmation from investors on their donations. After recieving
this confirmation, we plan to move forward and begin Phase One.

What is altHERnative?

AltHERnative is a non-profit organization formed in the hopes of fostering better lives

for women around the globe. Because women in developing countries are often expected to have
children at a very young age due to traditional culture, hope for familial prosperity, and
patriarchal influences. Women must be included in the increasingly progressive world, and we
want to become connoisseurs of this opportunity.

Our company focuses on three main services, contraceptive distribution, education, and
health care. In order to be successful in contraceptive distribution, altHERnative will be
responsible for purchasing, packaging, shipping and delivering many different forms of
contraception. Much of this contraception will have to be replaced monthly, or several times a
year. Therefore, this will be an ongoing service based upon need. Rather than simply distributing
contraception, we want to assist young women in their journey to becoming active contributors
to the economy. We would like girls to be able to receive a basic education, to give them the
proper skills to become a part of the workforce. In addition, we would like to help teach girls
valuable skills required to start their own businesses, and act as mentors to make
entrepreneurship possible. Lastly, we will support women's health specialists in communities
utilizing our services to help women learn about female hygienics and sexual health. There is
intense need for proper sexual education and contraceptive availability. In rural India, the
prevalence of modern contraceptive use in 2015 was only 14.7 per cent, and there was a 40.3 per
cent rate of unmet needs for modern methods of contraception (Ram). This is a starkly different
statistic than from that in urban areas, and this statistic and be attributed to the lack of education
and accessibility regarding modern forms of birth control.

What is Our Plan?

Contraceptive Distribution: In order to make mass shipping and purchasing possible as a non-
profit organization, we plan to partner with international shipping companies including Shipping
International and FedEx. Because our funds come entirely from donations and sponsorships their
services will be provided for an extremely discounted price, and we will advertise their company
in return. In order to provide contraception, we plan to partner with companies such as Sprintec
and Essure, to receive discounted birth control. In return, we will advertise their sponsorship.

Education: To provide education, we must have access to rooms in the community to teach
classes. We will speak to local schools and ask to reserve rooms after normal school hours. In
addition, we will need to provide pay for teachers, or provide a volunteer teaching staff. This will
be based upon volunteer involvement and donation.
Health Care: AltHERnative plans to provide health care by utilizing local hospital offices during
select hours during the week, and providing funds to support women's health specialists. These
doctors will spend these hours mentoring women on safe sexual practices and female health and
hygeine. These specialists will be volunteer and supported by donations.

To find these volunteers with proper teaching and health care backgrounds, we will work with
the Peace Corps, and have our locations and services be available as stations for Peace Corps
volunteers.

Who are Our Key Advocates?

Emily Hopkins: Founder of altHERnative and president of the organization. As a college student,
she found her passion of serving other around the world, and has been working with Planned
Parenthood to start up the organization.
