How effective is the combination of your Main product and ancillary

texts?
When creating my digipak and magazine advert (ancillary texts), I wanted to enhance the
idea that the products were a direct representation of how I wanted my artist to be perceived
by the audience intended to attract therefore took inspiration from artists and bands that suit
the music genre like HAIM and Madison Beer to connote the connection. I recognised before
I designed my two ancillary text that having some kind of coinciding connection to relates the
whole brand together whether a particular colour, font and image therefore I decided that
during the designing element of my products I decided to use a repetitive font in order to
make a trademark for my artist (Luna Rey) as it suited the aesthetic I wanted to achieve- for
the layout and overall appearance of both the digipak and magazine advert I wanted to
combine an equal level of negative pace and image placement to look as simplistic yet
visually stimulating as possible as I like the look of having borders to define the image on the
product for example having the seamless image taken at the natural view that was a simple
concept yet the fact a facial expression was clearly made to add more personality and
humour to image meaning that when placed during the production looked genuinely
effective. The simplicity of the digipak and magazine advert link to the music videos
minimalist concept as it tells a simple story however the little details highlight the
combination of all the products as the songs list featured on the back on the digipak for
Clarity and Corruption relate to the feelings and experiences in a modern relationship, both
the highs and lows showing how every person in life has times where they are the
antagonistic in their lifetimes but also the protagonist therefore finding medium is important,
which is an important point for the intended audience of the artist, and relates to the video as
it tells a series of realistic scenarios that occur in a relationship, highlighting the coalescence
between the main product and the ancillary texts. I chose to feature Luna on the cover to
establish her face as the main focus as it emphasises who the artist is without being overtly
clique or contrast to how I wanted to visualise my ancillary texts, and the fact Ive chosen to
feature Luna in the video as well under another person indicates the effectiveness as I
carries a link between all of the products and keeps that repetition that would enable to
audience to see several sides of the person behind the music, and become symbolic to the
consumers. The rudimentary typography is shaded pink and black through both aspects of
the ancillary texts created to connote femininity and vibrancy of the artist which was carried
on to the music video as the same typography was used throughout with a burned pink
being the shade for the video to make it stand out more within the mise-en-scene set out that
was featured in the establish shot of the video sequence, although for the purpose of
catching the consumers attention to text has been located at the centre of the screen in a
bolder font to follow conventions but also ensure that the typography is visually clear in all
formats. However the font Aharoni is used in all products consistently; the combination of
product still occurs. The fact the pink tones have been used in every product confirms how
the products all coincide with one another in simplistic techniques providing a colour
originated representation of how empowerment and minimalism effects the symbolism
behind the album and video as it connotes a lot therefore I used a vary of colours aside from
the pink to avoid either gender from feeling deterred based on colour associated stereotypes
as I dont want an unneeded restriction on my audience to occur.
Each of the shots in the music video have been purposely attempted to be consistently
centre to create the smooth, clear and consistent look that a genuine music video should
have unless it has been purposely made to look any differently- and by using the shots taken
for the ancillary products I could adhere to using them as inspiration for how to shot from
angles that flatter my couples face and use the skills learnt from editing those photographs
to ensure I could create an aesthetically pleasing visual experience that features aspects of
my ancillary products as well- keeping within the effective of the combination of products
being highlighted.
