This document outlines a 7-week data collection plan involving teacher interviews, parent surveys, literacy kits sent home with families, child observations, and post-surveys and interviews. The plan's purpose is to learn strategies to promote literacy, provide new activities for children, and get feedback on literacy kits. Data Source Timeline/Plan for Intended Learning/Purpose Adaptations/Changes made
Collection during Data Collection Period I hope to interview the teachers to learn about strategies they use in the Teacher/ Week 1 of data classroom to promote Director collection literacy. This will allow me to Interview provide new activities for the children to try in school and also use these literacy activities/games at home. I want to make sure the activities I provide are different than anything they currently use and I would like to have some information about the children and about how many children are in each center so I can create the literacy activities to work within the classroom.
I can also ask the teachers
what skills they feel their students may need to work on to improve their literacy and provide games/activities that work on that aspect of literacy.
Once all of the consent forms
are returned, I plan on I did not send out surveys sending out a short survey to asking which parents wanted Parent Week two of data see how many parents would a lit kit and just included that Survey collection be interested in receiving a question at the end of the literacy kit, which would consent form. include games and a newsletter explaining how each game /activity is used.
I will send home I changed the literacy kit to
games/activities for the be used for three weeks Literacy Kits/ Week 3 and 4 of data parents that wanted to rather than three as many Newsletter collection receive the literacy kits. parents started to use the kit These kits are designed for 2 towards the end of the week. weeks and have multiple activities for the families to try out together.
Parent After a week of completing
Questionnaire Week of 3 and 4 of data collection during the 2- This questionnaire actually data collection week activity set/newsletter was implemented as a that was sent home, I will ask survey. the families to fill out this questionnaire. It will ask parents if they have used the games this week, which activity they found their child liked best, etc.
I hope to come into the
center 3 times during this week to observe the children Child Week 5 of data using the literacy kits in their Observation collection school setting. I think it is important for the children to see that these skills/literacy practices are used everywhere rather than just at home or just at school.
I plan on coming in and
watching the children use these kits during centers, if possible Post Survey Week 6 of data The Post survey will be given collection to each of the families that used the literacy kits and will ask them a few short questions for them to answer about their usage of the kits/their childrens literacy (some multiple choice and 1- 2 short answer)
Post Week 7 of data I will conduct short
Interviews collection interviews with the teachers/directors about their experience with the literacy kits to see if they noticed the child liking one activity more than the others and their opinions about using the literacy kits in school.
I would also like to try and
interview one of the parents I did not get the opportunity who participated in the study to interview a family and to see how their experience readjusted the final survey to was using the lit. kits and include some of the questions what they thought worked I planned to ask in the well at home, etc. interview.
