Enterprise search to help you find your models and data quickly and
accurately.
Data updates every 10 seconds on the process flowsheet diagrams for a
quick comparison of simulation results with plant data.
Changing model inputs, running and viewing results.
Profit app to view planned plant performance against actual performance
and the ability to drill down to identify why actual performance is different
from planned performance.
An Administration application for viewing and monitoring system
resources and users and performing some management tasks for
resources and users.

Whats New in aspenONE
V8.4

Overview
This section lists and describes new features and enhancements made in the
V8.4release. These include:
Enhancements to the Simulation Application
Enhancements to Overall Applications

Enhancements to the
Simulation Application
The following enhancements were made in the V8.4 release.

Support for Hydraulics and RefSys Models

AspenONE now allows you to ingest Hydraulics and Aspen HYSYS Petroleum
Refining models and run them in aspenONE. From aspenONE, you now have
the same views and can perform the same actions as those available for
Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS.

Tables Zoom and Pan

You can now size and pin Simulation tables to the flow sheet. This enables
support for large flow sheets and large displays. You can double-tap the flow
sheet to zoom in if the table is too small and then double-tap again to zoom
out. You can reset the table sizes to their default size.

Enhancements to Overall
Applications
The following enhancements were made in the V8.4 release.

Community Icon
The Community icon in the aspenONE Home Workspace is used to visit the
Community to discuss, learn, and connect with your peers.

Search
Performance was improved, and you can change the number of results
displayed. This allows you to rapidly view up to 80 flow sheets on a single
page.

Issues found only with the iPad
The following issues are in the V8.4 release.

iPad Performance with IOS 7 on Earlier

Versions of the iPad
For the V8.4 release, the following general usability issues occur on iPad 3 or
lower with IOS7 installed.
You might have problems running aspenONE using Safari on IOS7. When
you attempt to run aspenONE, the page never opens.
To resolve this issue, after upgrading to IOS7 on older generation iPads,
you can do the following:
In Safari, select Settings | General | Reset | Reset All Settings.
After resetting all setting, restart your iPad.
IOS 7 is not certified for aspenONE V8.4. Although, you can run aspenONE
using this operating system, you might encounter slower performance on
iPad 3 or lower.

Whats New in aspenONE
V8.3

Overview
This chapter lists and describes new features and enhancements made in the
V8.3 release. These include:
Profit application
Enhancements to Simulation application
Enhancements to Admin application
New aspenONE Workflow Scheduler
Expanded device and browser support

Profit Application
Profit was introduced in V8.3 as a new aspenONE application that monitors
and displays the real-time profit generated by one or more plants or units and
provides one or more reasons why the profit is below daily specified targets.
These leading indicators enable executives, plant or unit managers to react in
real-time before they miss their quarterly profit targets.

aspenONE V8.4 Release Notes 9

For each plant or unit, price and accumulated flow data are collected and
graphs are displayed for targets, profit, costs and revenues. When quarterly
profit to date is lower than target, to the system identifies the likely reasons
why the profit might be down. For each reason the algorithm also flags the
flows that are causing the problem for display.
1. The first reason might be economic. For example the plant was making
gasoline and the price of regular just went from $3.40/G to $2.60/G.
2. The second reason may be that the product mix has changed. For
example in olefins plant a sharp drop in the production of Ethylene
and an increase in the production of Propylene which generates less
profit.
3. The third reason is that the plant is processing less feedstock. For
example a furnace is being de-coked in an olefins plant
See the Getting Started with aspenONE Profit chapter in the aspenONE
Installation, Configuration, and Implementation guide for getting started
information and the online help for details about using Profit.

Enhancements to Simulation
Application
Double-tap to zoom in and back
Double-tap on the simulation flowsheet zooms in close enough to look at
individual units. Double-tap again returns to the previous zoom level.
Pinching is still available, but the double-tap gesture provides a more
convenient method to navigate large flowsheets.

10 aspenONE V8.4 Release Notes

Check Input Changes
aspenONE allows multiple users to view, modify, and save personal versions
of models to their workspaces, the original models are not modified. The new
Check Input Changes button summarizes all of the input changes that have
been made to your personal version of the model. This table can be copied
and pasted for reporting and transferring the data to other users.

Data Views
1. Apply Variable Selection to similar types: Variable selections in
data views can be propagated to all other tables of the same type. For
example, for one stream you could select the composition of a single
component and the temperature, and then propagate this selection to
all other streams.
2. Custom variables: Now the model author can customize the model
(and stream) summary grid in Aspen Plus and HYSYS and save the
template. These templates can be selected in aspenONE to add
additional variables. For example, you can add polymer attributes in
Aspen Plus and then be able to display them in aspenONE.
3. New Composition/Legend Button: By default the composition pie
chart is not displayed with the data view. To see the composition pie
chart, click the toggle legend button in the app bar.
4. Default Variables: Previously all variables were displayed in data
views by default. Now 3-6 variables are displayed for each unit
operation or stream.
5. Launch High Performance Trends from plot preview: After
displaying the plot preview, tap on the graph to launch the high
performance trend view to analyze the historical data.

Error status on simulation control panel

The control panel now shows the simulation error status so that you can
immediately see if the simulation was successful.

Performance issues in earlier releases have

been addressed these include:
Improved Performance of table refreshes when many data tables are open
Improved performance when refreshing stream tables for models with many
components and stream variables
Improved performance when rendering search results

Enhancements to Admin
Application
The administration application is available to users in the Aspen Search
Administrators group. The Admin application can be accessed by clicking on
the User Info icon on the ubar and was improved to provide more reliable
system health information and tools to manage user sessions. An
Administrator can use the Admin App to view and manage the resources,
machines, and adapters in the enterprise environment. The System Monitor
view of the Admin App provides information about the following:
System Resources - Monitor and manage System Resources for multiple
servers in the enterprise environment that are connected to aspenONE.
User Administration - Manage user sessions.
Full details for this application can be found in the online help.

New aspenONE Workflow

Scheduler
The previously named OpenPipeline used for scheduling scanning jobs for
search has been renamed to aspenONE Schedule Manager. Creating scanning
jobs is quicker and easier with a new user interface and the use of defaults
for most fields. See the Installation and Configuration Guide Chapter 7
Configuring aspenONE Schedule Manager for details.

Expanded device and browser

support
aspenONE can be used with Internet Explorer version 10 (IE10) without any
plugins. IE10 is available on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Microsoft Surface
devices.
