Course Overview

Welcome to Art! I am excited to learn with you this year. This year we will be working with
several different mediums of art, including Charcoal, Paint, Printmaking, Clay, Face Paint,
Comic Art and Henna. Assignment Outlines will be found online on our class website

Grade Breakdown

Attendance/Participation 25%
Class time is important. Every 2 unexcused absences or 3 late arrivals will result in a grade
drop (B+ to B, or B- to C+) It is important that students are present for participation in critiques
Projects 45%
There will be 4-5 projects each semester. Projects will be graded on completeness, effort and
understanding of the elements of art and principles of design. Any project can be improved
upon and submitted for regrading before the end of the semester
Sketchbook Grade 10%
Warmup sketchbook assignments will happen periodically throughout the week, and it will also
be required that you take notes on instructions for the projects
Final Portfolio 20%
We will be making, or adding to, an online portfolio throughout the semester. Art pieces are
required to be properly photographed and reflections will need to be written for each piece.
There will be presentations of our art and our portfolios at the end of the year.
Extra Credit (up to 10%)
Extra credit will be awarded to students who go above and beyond in a project, or can be
earned by completing extra assignments which can be discussed with Ms. Darby. Extra credit
assignments will most likely have a research and reflection component to them.

Required Materials

Project Materials will be provided in this class. But every student is required to purchase a
sketchbook, and a H-B pencil set from the office or bring one in. (If you have a used sketchbook
at home you can bring that in, it just must be less than half full!)

experiences, in order to stay on task, we need to have some structure
