The Passive
Active and passive sentences often have similar meanings, but a different focus.
Passive sentences move the focus from the subject to the object of active sentences.

FORM: SUBJECT + BE + _______________ (+ BY) + AGENT

How to change from active to passive: Intransitive or transitive?


If the verb does not take an object in the

PASSIVE TENSES AND ACTIVE EQUIVALENTS

Notice that the tense of the verb to be in the passive voice is the same as the tense of the main
verb in the active voice.
